I prefer open ended questions but find that a few multiple choice help kids feel a sense of pride when they can find an easy answer. For my class, it might be worth a couple bonus points but with the English standards, I'm usually look for a very specific skill which would be covered in the "test" (most of my tests are not actual tests).
