In this quote, Equality is explaining that the Golden One is smiling to him and only him. The smile Equality receives is a gesture from the Golden One. This quote is important to the novel because it is inferring that Equality and Liberty are slowly falling in love and this is a sign.

This quote made me think about how Equality started out in a very strict society and lived fear and his life was controlled by a council. But then in this quote, Equality sees himself as an individual and that he is part of this world as himself and he's not compared to other people anymore. This quote is important to everyone because it shows us that Equality is now able to use the word "I" and he's proud to be his own person.
