Strengths: Overall, I was really impressed with the students hard work. In a very short amount of time the achieved a very high technical level. Clear designs and interesting and imaginative concepts.

Improvements: One word of advice would be to remember the intention and context their models will be displayed. Its an immersive theatre experience so storytelling is an integral part of the work. By adding a little bit of extra imagination adding sound, or an extra detail to help their objects drive their narrative and help increase the immersion.

Target: Based on employer feedback and testing - Remove sky from scene, add lighting to your objects as the event is in the evening at 7pm.

Literacy: Provide a title that describes your scene. Add this on to the Styly QR image with your first name. Graphic novels are extended or complete narrative told through juxtaposing sequential art pannels. Popular examples of this are Nimona, Saga, Lore Olympus, etc.

Comics
A short collection of a series of art panels used to tell a story in a serialised story. For example Superman, Spiderman, Deadpool, Wonder Women, etc.

Conventions For Graphic Novels 
  • Western graphic novels are read front to back, left to right, top to bottom. 
  • Japanese comics (manga) are read back to front, left to right, top to bottom. Show examples – E.g. Naruto, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Nausica FullMetal Alchemist.
  •  In graphic novels, text and image are interdependent and need to be read together.
  • Images cannot be removed without compromising the meaning of the story (compare this with a picture book)
  • Spaces (gutters) between panels have to also be “read” - they have meaning (this construction of meaning between panels is called closure)
