Alexander was born in Kremenchung and grew up Jewish, later his family moved to Rostovon-Don. At first Alexander was musician before getting drafted into the Soviet Army in the summer of 1941. At the time the Germans were invading Russia.

The torture camp was first opened in May 1942. The official camp's name is SS-Sonderkommando Sobibor. The very first arrivals were in April 1942.

In October 1941, Alexander was officially captured by the German forces. While in imprisonment he contracted Typhoid that he managed to hide from his captors, If his captors find out that he had Typhoid it would've been certain death from the Nazis. Later on he escaped capture but got caught again. Alexander then got sent to Borishov, where it was revealed he was circumcised Jewish. Alexander was then sent away to SS Sheroka Street camp. In September 1943 the Minsk Ghetto was destroyed which led to him being moved.

Alexander was selected alone for construction, everyone else that came with him was killed by gas. Alexander would begin plotting a plan to make a grand escape.

The Escape

Alexander and 6 others began planning a scheme for revolt. They then executed the plan on October 14th, 1943. The small crew that Pechersky had recruited attacked German Officers then they stole the weapons from the officers. The men eventually were able to escape and the 600 men that were in the camp only 300 died. but potentially more died from mine fields or being recaptured.

The aftermath

After the escape Alexander had reached Soviet soldiers and was free from the pain of Sobibor. Later on Alexander renlisted in the Soviet army and was injured. Alexander played a major role in the trial of former Nazis at Sobibor.
