In Week 5, we have been introduced to the knowledge on page design, the do's and the don't's and how to make a page readable and pleasing to the eye.

To test your understanding, you are required to find a story page in a local newspaper of 2017. Similar to the previous task, select one page that has more than one story. Take a picture and share on padlet what do you think about the page design. Is it good or bad? What would you suggest to make it more attractive?

The deadline is next Tuesday 17 October 2017.

Tabloid grid is used as the page grid, which includes 5 columns in it. This is the example of pages without art. The story placement is correct, which the strongest one rises at the top, with the biggest headline, “PARA COACH JAILED FOR SODOMISING BOYS”. The story shapes are rectangle-like.

Then, the butting headlines are used in this page design. The sizes of headlines are different so the readers can spot the dominant story in the page. However,the page designer does not really mix the headline’s fonts and styles which is quite good to have a consistency in terms of the headline. This avoid readers from being puzzled while reading the hard news. There are spaces between two headlines which assist readers to identify the headline belongs to which story. To improve a little bit , I suggest to add a lift out quote to highlight a key topic for the story. This can help the reader to understand the story at a glance.

Next, the modular page design is neat as it is used in rectangular units. There are 4 modules altogether on the page. The page design is not tedious as it has mug shots and the story is well-organized and balance.

The modular page design is 5 including the folio. This tabloid newspaper used 5 column grid format.
There are also has a dominant story using main headline with the word "kemenangan" with green color. It is also use L shaped text block for the dominant story.
Furthermore, there are also used boxing stories with grey color to tell the readers that the story is different from the side and it is used slammer headline.
Every story has their photo or logo and mugshot photo. In my opinion ,this newspaper using Tabloid grid.Its roughly half the size of broadsheet .Using this tabloid grid its will give more attractive elements to readers because of the fronts page design full with colours, photo and the suitable fonts.Next,this newspapers also easier to produce and cheaper to print out.The advertisement also can dominate a tabloid page more effectively than the broadsheet newspaper.Tabloid newspaper style are popular with reader -(handier) . This newspaper tabloid grid are using the suitable size font and good arrangement of main story.

Moreover,I think this tabloid grid style are good to reader (handier).Its use pages with art that are include keep all story shape rectangular.That can vary our shape and sizes,through that it can emphasize what is important.This tabloid newspaper also give each page a dominant image.If this newspaper is page with art that e can balance and scatter our art but must beware of butting headlines.

The suggestion to make tabloid newspapers more attractive are first place the most important or banner story in the right hand corner to get focal attention.Second,avoid jump stories.Third,cover the leading stories substantially.Fourth,draws attention to the page and identifies the publication.

This newspaper is tabloid sheet. Roughly half the size of broadsheet newspaper. A page grid provides the structure/architecture that keep elements evenly aligned. This tabloid grid has 5 columns as most common in tabloid. This page is page with art so the story shape is rectangular. It emphasize what important and give each page a dominant image. Plus it also put a mugshot photo to show that is the important person for the sources of news. No butting headlines.
Beside that, in this page include modular page design stand by 3 story discrete rectangular units and also has one column to focus the info,fact and the lift out quotes.

In my opinion the page design is look good and so attractive to me and also to the reader because it easy to understand what actually the information that they want to give to reader. This page is systematic because they put line between the stories to make it see different, also have the lift out quotes that show the important sources.

NST is a broadsheet newspaper, so the format used is broadsheet grid. It provides larger room for picture as the main story. The story written also in rectangular shape and have one dominant image. The design is good because shows and emphasize what is important in the page. The color and font of headline used also can capture reader's eyes. In my opinion, this newspaper using tabloid grid. This newspaper enlarge the headline to attract the readers to read the newspaper. Next, the designer using a rectangle photo and have two mugshot. This newspaper also add in- house advertisement in front page and vary the shapes and size of art to look attractive. Front page in the newspaper is very important, have a value and main story to attract to reader to read. But, we was as reader, will be confuse the tittle in the front page the Utusan Malaysia newspaper. Beside that, when we read the tittle in the front page the newspaper, they put ''Dijerat Cinta Militan'' in a big size on the front page, we as reader the this newspaper consider that was a topic that they want to focus, but they also put big picture on the left which is not related to the story on the right in the front page.
Overall, my suggestion is, they need to follow the NST and the Star designer because NST and the Star is very nice designer and the front page not confused the reader to read the newspaper. As we know, tabloid grid roughly half the size of broadsheet newspaper and it used 5 to 6 column grids that contain text of the news. From the news, we can see the headline was located below the image and be bold. Besides that, the word "Tokyo" was highlighted with red color to attract readers and make clearance about the story. Lastly, the page design of the story is good and clear.
