My personal favorite part of the poem is the repetition when he thinks "and nothing more" to himself when he hears the knocking. It exaggerates the thought that it is nothing serious and that there is no use stressing over it. This adds a sense of suspense before he opens the window.

He landed on the top of the door frame. They were staring at each other and no matter what the man said to the raven all the raven said was "Nevermore"

Then the Tone goes to brave, because he opens up the door and the window to see who was knocking. The Tone goes to annoying and sad, because the raven will not stop saying nevermore, and the sad Tone is because he goes back to thinking about Lenore. and nevermore sounds like Lenore.

I think Poe chose a Raven because they are dark and can imitate speech. They are darkly colored and match the mood of the poem. They are also seen as very creepy. Ravens may also create a gloomy mood making the story more scary. The Raven also could have represented his wife

the raven was a better chose compared to what he originally thought of, which was a parrot, due to its ability to speak. the raven's color of black fits with the theme of the story. the entire atmosphere of the poem is bleak and shadowy. the poem is clearly about death, put the rest of the details are not clear. it may be about his wife, and the fact that she is dead, and the raven might be a symbol for the mans depression, do to the wife's death, and at the end, he tried to get rid of the raven, but he did not do it successfully.
