It also shows the dialect and accents of the people there with their southern accent. In the beginning of the movie, Mark Twain talks about this story as one that happened, so it presents the Realism in the story as Tom and Huckle are ordinary people with dreams, hopes and their own traits. In the same manner, the story presents the topography, in the caverns and the river, and the history of the place as Twain states that the story happened in Mississippi before the railroad. One can also see the customs of the place and beliefs as Huckle talks about the cat and the devil and about being careful of what you say about dead people, and we also see, after Muf Potter escapes and is detained again, the townspeople covering Muf in animal fur. 

Also, the movie shows the Naturalism as it shows the social classes that Tom and Huckle belong to, and how Huckle in many ways is different from Tom as he does not have a home or family, he is on his own, and that Tom is the only one who cares about him. In the same way, one can talk about the characters not having control over their lives when Joe keeps appearing in Tom’s life not letting him free, and how death comes for him at the end. Also, when they find the treasure is when Tom can finally make his dreams come true as before they couldn’t. Finally, it is very realistic and, in some way, sad that at the end Tom and Huckle didn’t see each other again, but it shows once again that they did not have control over their destinies.

First, regarding Regionalism, from the beginning of the movie we can see its focus on a certain geographical region, the characters used particular clothing, and the characters use a specific accent from their region (South accent). Second, regarding Realism, we can see how the storytelling presents Tom and Huckle as regular individuals inside a society with traditions and dreams. Also, the movie tells a story that can be true in someone´s daily life since someone can be judged for a crime they did not commit and also the fact that at the end of the movie an African American was trying to escape with Huckle to get to the free-slavery states. Third, regarding Naturalism, the movie shows the social classes present in Tom and Huckle´s town, and the fact that Huckle does not have any family to rely on, just Tom.  Also, we can see the determinism of Tom when we decide to talk about what happened in court.  Moreover, the lack of control humans have over their lives is present in the movie since how death comes for Joey at the end and the fact that Tom and Huckle at the end of the movie were not able to see each other anymore.

For example, without the desire to foster stereotypes as an unmistakable description of a region, the costumes of the citizens in the movie are entirely compatible with the dress code of the South back in the day. I looked it up and corroborate the aforementioned statement, which I found it interesting that the movie paid attention to those details as well.  As for Realism, In the post-Civil War United States, much had to be reconstructed, recovered, and rethought. This is the context in which the movie is displayed. Through its characters and situations, the movie portrayed the past with nostalgia and longing, but it also envisions hope and a deliberate sense of justice. We can see the realism when the movie addresses the contemporaneity of workers and peasants, especially outdoor meetings and rural places. Likewise, another theme that is inextricably linked to Regionalism in the movie, in my opinion, is the importance of nineteenth-century American values. For example, the pursuit of justice is what the two protagonists come to model their entire life around when they came to realize about the sentence of the innocent Muff Potter.  Furthermore, I agree with my classmates on the specific accent of the citizens, especially the two protagonists when they go to the Sheriff (including the two security guards) and the crime scene where the citizens accuse Muff Potter of the murder. In a similar fashion, the movie provides an astonishing depiction of the countryside, which is consistent with the South of United States (the grassland and the Mississippi river for example). When it comes to Realism, we can see how Tom is a person with dreams and expectations that can be incredibly relatable for a kid, especially back in 1876. 
Also, we can get to see that Tom's expectations are indeed human. For example, the search for love between Tom and Betty, as well as the gratification thanks to the treasure.  Moreover, we can see how the movie evolves into Naturalism when describing questionable features of humans in terms of greed and lies (Injun Joe) and stigmatization by class.

Regionalism is present all over the movie. First, it is present in the presentation and importance that the movie gives to the geographical region, specifically to the Mississippi River. Then, the movie portrays the customs and traditions of this society; for example, people went regularly to church, also that the trials were based on the testimonies of the people and that the voice of the people had a lot of influence on the judge's decisions, also, that the sentence to die by hanging was still practiced, which are aspects that reveal characteristics about the community. In addition to that, the film shows mystical beliefs such as going to see the devil in the cemetery. I believe that Tom Sawyer and Huckle are the representation of naturalism in the film. For example, Tom always admires the influence that nature has on Huckle's life since Tom has a stronger influence in his life from the social part since he has obligations to fulfill such as studying, working at home, and being obedient to his aunt. And throughout the film, Tom Sawyer and Huckle are presented in critical moments of their lives where they remain as victims of fate. A destiny that they cannot choose, change, or avoid. Poverty is also an aspect present in the movie. Huckle seems to me that he was an orphan and did not have a family so his financial situation was surely complicated. Then, Tom had a home, but he was always barefoot, which could be interpreted as a symbol of poverty. However, they reflected optimism; for example, when they went to get the prisoner out, or when they tried to find the money to be rich. The film also reflects the indifference and hostile condition in which some people might live; for example, Muff Potter is blamed for committing a murder that he did not commit. The fact that most of the adventures took place at the river Mississippi and its surroundings makes the setting an important part of the movie. The story is shaped by the characteristics of its setting and location by showing countryside lifestyle and adding the notorious accent of southern people in characters; traits that are particular of Regionalism. Another feature of Regionalism is presented in storytelling which shows the tradition of Mississippi River folktales. 
Now, Realism is not only presented in the rural and common lives of people but also in the harsh reality of society. For instance, the character Huckleberry Finn is a homeless and orphan child that shows the product of a flawed society. Another trait of realism reflected in the movie is the presence of criminals combined with the harshness of the law: hang those who commit crimes.

First, the audience can see that the story is about two ordinary but adventurous kids. We also can see class conflicts since the kids do not have a family, but we see privileged people in the movie. In fact, Finn says that his mother is on the Mississippi River. So, we can see the difference between both of them in their social status. In fact. The movie is very realistic for its accuracy in real life. In addition, the geographical aspect is so evident with the Mississippi River, the caves, as well as the map that is shown during the last minutes of the movie when a place like Chicago is seen, for example. On the other hand, naturalism is present too because we can appreciate that the individuals have no control over their fate as is the case of Joe and his death. Also, poverty is reflected in the case of Huckle because he is just a child but homeless. The movie shows different aspects regarding these periods and makes the story reliable and accurate for some the audience can actually feel identified with it.

The aspects of Regionalism are so well presented and the story of the kids felt like seen 'real' children playing that it seemed to me to had traveled to past and looked a piece of its story. First of all, the importance given to Mississippi River (at least for Tom) is present in various scenes; also, many different customs are present all over the movie: clothing, going to church, the way of adressing to children (because notice that at the end, when they became 'rich', suddenly start to be respected). Moreover, this examples also have a relation with the Naturalism, since all of that customs were also related to the poverty of the period, but at the same time for a sense of addapting one to 'match' (be confortable) when exploring. Besides this, we can see the 'survival sense' when trying to escape and hide from Indian Joe, and at the end not killing him but doing the necessary to remain alive.

Setting is truly important for regionalism, and the movie highlights the place where the events take place, the Mississippi river, as well as it incorporates characters that shape the setting, for their traditions and dialect are portrayed throughout the movie. 
Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn shows to the audience the harsh reality lived by the two main characters, giving a very realistic perception. In this sense, the movie also showcases characteristics of Naturalism. Tom and Huck evidently do not have control over their fate, they did not choose to be orphans, and although they share this common bond, it is evident the difference between their living conditions. Unlike Tom, Huck Finn has no home and his father is constantly drunk and completely ignores him. The ending of the movie also shows how they do not have control over the course of their lives because it did not matter how much they wanted to, they were not able to see each other again.

From my perspective, the most prominent aspects of regionalism and naturalism in this movie are the clothing, accent, geographic location and the chain of events which eventually drove Tom and Hucky appart. First, as we all saw, the movie takes place in the southern state of Missouri near the Mississippi River, so this river is always present in almost all the scenes of the movie. It almost feels like a character when Hucky says the river is his mom: It was there when he first opened his eyes, and it was still there when he was growing up. As for their accent, it is clear that the characters are located in the southern part of the U.S, which made it difficult to understand what the characters were saying, and also at the end a new character comes into scene who is a slave. (Based on the what we saw in the course packet, the southern states were pro-slavery). In terms of the plot itself, the movie is very reminiscent of the idea that there are natural forces conspiring against us, and we can't do anything about it. This is evident in every encounter Tom and Hucky have with Injuin Joe. First encounter happened at the cemetary, and they thought they were ghosts. Second encounter happened at the boat wreckage because a wave knocked down Tom. Even after months away from the town, they faced Injuin Joe a third time. Finally, the last encounter happened in the cave when he finally died. It the movie wasn't a comedy, one would think that Tom and Hucky were living a tragedy. The movie portrays Regionalism with the emphasis it makes to where the actions take place, the Mississipi River. It mentions this river many times to show the importance of the river for protagonists. Regionalism is also represented with the cave beacuse it is a particular cave which is part of a specific region which differentiates the place from others. Another aspect that could be taken as Regionalism is the presence of laws. When a man is going to be hanged beacuse he is accussed of murdering another man, a woman appears and says that they cannot just hang him as he first must be judged.
In the case of Naturalism, it is portrayed by the socio-economic position of Tom and Huck, both are poor and, in the case of Huck, he lives alone. They did not decide to live in that way. Other ways Naturalism is presented are when a storm catches up Tom and Huck or when Tom and the girl get lost inside the cave. Through the movie, the narrator mentions the name of the river several times (almost every time it appeared on screen and more), as if to make sure that viewers knew where the events took place. Aside from this, the characters speak in a very particular accent that is known to belong to people from the south; thus, the way in which they speak highlights the fact that they are from a southern region. In terms of realism, viewers can see that characters have traditions, believes and dreams. For instance, they are used to going to church, but they are also willing to hang criminals and take justice in their hands even though they have judges and a legal system. We can also see that social classes are very present: when Tom and Huck went to church after their “disappearance,” the division is clear, for people cared about Tom but ignored Huck’s presence because he was poor. We can also see that Huck runs away with a black man who is escaping slavery. As for naturalism, one very clear aspect is the lack of control individuals have over their lives. While Tom and Huck hung out together, it appeared destiny had interesting plans for them, as both of them were constantly put in dangerous situations because they kept running into Joe every time they did something. Another example is the case of the man who was blamed for the first murder. The man was innocent but could not prove his innocence because of the occurred events and the fact that people in town were very sure it was him. Here we can differentiate two different eras of dialect which are the moment that Tom’s story takes place and when the kids ask Twain to tell the story. Furthermore, the sense of community is developed in the movie when Tom and Becky are lost in the caves because several people get together to find them.  

In addition, Naturalism is also present in the movie. The movie depicts the social conditions of the people of the time such as the gap between classes (Tom and Becky), how Huck is isolated for being homeless, and some traits of slavery are also appreciated. Then, nature plays an important role since it imposes limitations on the characters. That is the Mississippi River as a natural barrier or the storm that sinks the boat. Finally, we can find the intrusion of an outsider or external forces. In this case, the criminal Joe, who seeks to steal the money of the people in town. Even Joe chasing Tom creates fear and a sense of victimization in the protagonist.
