The authors purpose in the text “Armadillo Attributions” written by Karen Olson is persuasive, which can be inferred by the word choice that was used. Karen Olson stated “Armadillos has strange yet fascinating traits.” What can be concluded from this quote is that Olson is trying to combine the reader that the traits that Armadillos obtained are unique or interesting. Afterwards, it states “In order to swim, they can swallow air to inflate their stomachs, becoming as buoyant as a balloon floating on the water.” Karen Olson is trying to provide the reader with an mental image and describing it with words that make it appear more interesting. The authors word choice throughout the text makes the topic that is discussed more interesting, as used by the author fascinating.

In the reading it states, “Armadillos have strange yet fascinating traits. In order to swim, they can swallow air to inflate their stomachs, becoming as buoyant as a balloon floating on the water”. This example shows that Armadillos are very fascinating but yet so strange and mysterious in a way. They have the ability to do things that most creatures can’t really do. Another example is in the text it states, “Armadillos are the only mammals with protective shells. You might assume that these shells and other traits make Armadillos immune from danger; however, predators such as dogs, wolves, and coyotes hunt these peaceful animals.” This piece of evidence shows that Armadillos are one of a kind because as stated, they are the ONLY MAMMALS with protective shells. After all, we can see that Armadillos are very interesting and fascinating creatures, they have abilities that other creatures don’t, etc... This is why the author’s purpose in “Armadillo Attributes” is to inform readers.

In the passage " Armadillo Attributes " by Karen Olson , the author's purpose is to inform readers about the fascinating and unique traits of the armadillo and how they use their strange shells for defense. Armadillos have a unique shell in which they use to defend from predators . In the passage it states " When threatened, armadillos may react defensively by jumping three to four feet into air. Some are able to curl up into tight balls." This sentence from paragraph 4 of Armadillo Attributes shows how armadillos can use parts of their body as defense to fight against predators .In the passage it also states "They probe grasses, decaying logs, or sandy soils with their pointy snouts. Once they locate beetles, ants, or other insects they like to eat, they eagerly dig them out with sharp claws and trap them with narrow, sticky tongues. Armadillos use their tongues to get to tough places to reach food. This quality helps them adapt to tough conditions. These pieces of evidence show how the authors purpose is to inform their audience of how interesting and fascinating armadillos are and their traits and quality's that help them survive .
