Church Cleanup

Katreena, Andrea, and I went to St. Paul Church. There we met with Katreena's mom and Father Reddy who was really kind to talk about other volunteer opportunities at the church. We originally went there to help with gardening, however, we ended up putting the Christmas trees away. The process lasted for an hour and a half, and it was really fun except for the fact that there was a lot of dust. We worked really fast and the one who supervised us jokingly said that her other helpers are fired. Also, I almost got ripped in half the time we're going home because both Katreena and Andrea were offering me a ride home. It was a really great night and I'd do it again. I'd cut off the contact with dust though, I'm allergic. This volunteer opportunity did drained my energy a lot and every part of my body hurts but it was worth it. Before doing the work, I would admit that I was nervous because I didn't know what we're going to do, and I don't know if I'm going to mess up something, I was anxious. However, after we got everything done I realized that there was nothing to worry about, so I went home happy.

Garbage Picking

On the 30th of April, the Me to We class picked up garbage around the football field and the park. It only lasted for 30 minutes but it was fine. It was also very windy and my hair was all over the place but that didn't stop me from picking up the trash. : ) I really did not feel much about picking up garbage but it was the first thing I've ever thought about when this volunteering assignment was introduced. I've always like picking up garbage.

Rolling Coins

On the 23rd of April, the Me to We class helped rolled the change for Humboldt. For at least 45 minutes, we counted the change but I was struggling because there's way too much. Even though Math is my favorite subject, numbers just scares me. One time while I was counting, I was on 25 then I started counting backwards. It was so funny because such a simple task messed with my brain big time. Rolling coins is actually pretty fun, my brain just need to function for me to do it.

Canteen

Alysa, Katreena, and I helped out in the canteen for the spring dance at school. It was a long night, we ran out of change and a lot of people are lining up for the snacks. That parts of the night was very stressful, however, it was not that bad. It was actually pretty fun. Again, it had to deal with money. When our first costumer arrived, he asked for 4 water bottles and me having such a slow brain couldn't even do simple math. I was trying to figure out the change in my head trying not to panic. Alysa just laughed at me after and I told her that I think I'm better at hard Math than the basic ones. Another funny story for me was that I wasn't really planning on helping in the canteen but Alysa called me while I was in the shower telling me I should come. I can also hear Katreena in the background convincing me. I thought why not, my project can wait the next day. So, I rushed and grabbed whatever I can wear and asked my dad to drive me. It scared me because my hair can go really crazy after I take a shower but it turned out to be not that bad. It was a really fun night but I think I developed a trauma from all the money.

Volunteering

If I had the chance to volunteer again, I would take it. Volunteering is fun and gives you experience that are totally memorable. If I'm going to have another chance to volunteer, I would want to volunteer in the church to help with gardening. When we went there to help, the lady who supervised told us that she was the only one doing the work, so I'd like to lend her a helping hand. Also, I've heard that there is going to be a volunteer opportunity to build houses in Kenya, Nepal, and other countries such as India. Since families with homes are already at health risk, this put homeless people in more danger. The construction will be a load of work as it includes layering the foundation, placing the brick, and other more stuff. Even if it is for 18 years and older, I'd still be interested. I've always imagined myself travelling different countries to help those in need.

After doing all those opportunities I actually felt really happy and always have the thought of doing it again. It was fun, even though there were some bumps along the way I enjoyed giving up my time to help others.
