I wanted to read this book because it stood out from all the others, at least to me. Upon the awaking he asks himself "What happened to me?" realizing this is not a dream. But he does not worry much about his appearance, he is much more stressed about his clock not waking him up on time missing his 5 o'clock train and therefore being late for his job. HIs mother and sister call him to ask why he was still in bed. While Gregor is unable to get off the bed, the office manager pays him a visit to check up on him. They all find out in what Gregor has turned into, his mother faints and the office manager escapes. Gregor stays in his room while his sister Greta is the only one that feeds him rotten produce which is the only food he finds able to eat. Gregor was the only one who made money in the family so now that he is unable to work his fathery gets a job in a bank, Greta also starts working. Gregor finds his life as a bug quite amusing although he cannot help but to feel lonely and depressed. As time passes the family becomes more poor and more annoyed by Gregor and they think he is not able to understand (but he is) because if he was he would see that no human can live along such a creature as he is. Later that night Gregor dies all alone by the window in his room. The cleaning lady finds him and tells the family about 'it' dying. Upon hearing this they feel a great sense of relief. The family takes a trolley ride out to the countryside, during which they consider their finances. He is occupied with his job that he does not see what he has turned into, the pressure of paying off his father's debt is greater, so when he realizes he is only a bug, he starts to enjoy his carefree life. As his family start to ignore him he becomes angry at them, he starts to miss them being a family. And what's important is that he was still himself, only his body was not. Maybe that problem could have been solved if Gregor could have communicated with them.

I wouldn't be comfortable in his place, I despise insects, they truly disgust me. It was all in one.

“One morning, when Gregor Samsa woke from troubled dreams, he found himself transformed in his bed into a horrible vermin. He lay on his armour-like back, and if he lifted his head a little he could see his brown belly, slightly domed and divided by arches into stiff sections. The bedding was hardly able to cover it and seemed ready to slide off any moment. His many legs, pitifully thin compared with the size of the rest of him, waved about helplessly as he looked.”
