The homeless epidemic is a serious problem in nearly every major city across the country. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, there are over 500,000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night. It’s a difficult challenge to tackle precisely because it is so multi-faceted, both in terms of its causes and its far-reaching effects. Homelessness affects not only the people who must struggle to survive on the street but also the business owners or residents in the neighborhoods. While many factors have contributed to the rise in homeless rates, one of the most profound is the lack of adequate social support services.

Taiwan's Low Fertility Rate under Financial Pressure

Lower fertility is a serious problem in Taiwan. According to the statistics of the Ministry of the Interior, Taiwan's fertility rate has been decreasing year by year. And each woman only gives birth to 0.98 children in her lifetime on average. This is a difficult problem to cope with, and it will have a significant impact on Taiwan's future. Sub-replacement fertility means that the working population will become fewer and fewer in the future, which will have a significant impact on the social structure, economic development, and other aspects of society. Many reasons lead to Sub-replacement fertility, one of the most profound is financial problems.

The impact of financial issues on Taiwan's declining fertility rate cannot be ignored. With the rising cost of living and housing prices, many young couples are feeling the financial pressure to have children. Young people cannot afford the expenses of housing. As a result, they are afraid to take up the responsibility of having children easily. In addition, the cost of education is also a significant financial burden. Expenses on kindergarten, school fees, cram schools, etc. These costs increase the stress on young families. These financial pressures have a direct impact on the fertility desires of young couples. They may postpone their birth plans or choose not to have children, or they may prefer to have only one child to reduce financial pressure.

To cope with a declining fertility rate due to economic factors, a variety of approaches are needed. The government can provide financial assistance to families through the provision of child benefits and childcare subsidies. In addition, both the Government and enterprises can provide childcare support and flexible work arrangements to reduce the financial pressure on parents. Educational and promotion activities can also be used to change societal attitudes towards childbirth and to provide functional information on fertility planning and balancing work and family life.

Dealing with Taiwan's declining fertility rate needs the collaborative efforts of the government, businesses, and all social sectors. We hope that through various measures we can gradually solve this problem and help Taiwan's future development.
