Nature provides the setting in which cultural processes, activities and belief systems develop. There are four key bridges linking nature with culture:

believes and worldviews - culture is a system by which people interpret the world around them. (troll, elf, dwarf, hidden people stories? ) My question: do we see the world around us as nature?

livelihoods and practices: as a set of practices, culture shapes biodiversity through the selection of plants and animals and the reshaping of landscapes (the sheep in Iceland provide food, clothes and warmth, some fields need to be cultivated to gather the grass for winter)

knowledge bases: the knowledge of nature influences people behaviour, understandings and values that shape human interactions with Nature. Knowledge of Nature is collected and transferred through stories and narratives.

norms and institutions: ecological knowledge gives rise to socially embedded norms and regulations. These govern human interactions and behaviours towards the natural environment, and have often co-evolved to sustain both people and Nature.

While making my wool creature I was thinking how many things come from the nature - the wool from the sheep, the metal needle from the mineral rich soil, tables and chairs from the trees, my clothes from animals and plants, the windows, the house, food we eat, the stories we listen to... Nature is overwhelmingly generous in giving and providing with everything we need. Do we take or do we receive? Receive with gratefulness in our hearts and consciousness of its generosity. And at least time from time we all should say 'thank you' to NATURE.

Today I had a chance to see a local school. It was interesting to hear Silja telling us about her work, and how things are organized in her school. No typical class rooms, no typical lessons; wonder if that could be something I could adopt into my teaching methods. And a heated swimming pool - would be a dream come true to my students. Sorry, but no picture. My troll didn't make it, too harsh conditions. Got lost and passed away.

The teaching method introduced in Icelandic schools is very innovative and captivating. It was a unique experience. It allowed a study visit to all the spaces of the school and to compare with the schools that. The Troll making workshop was the highlight of the day as it gave us the opportunity to expand our creativity. During the creation of the Troll, stories were heard to be read. I noticed that these same stories were told over and over again, as the books looked worn from the use they were put to. It was an experience that I will reproduce in my class activities and I will have my Kardashian Troll as a mascot. Fantastic teaching method!
