I think it's because "church ball" sounds too holier than "birthday ball".

 

However, I'll tell you what does sound "most special" to me:

 

I was a dear, dutiful daughter this morning, and took my sister to the hair salon at 1 pm (she's getting a new hairdo, that she's been excited about for a few weeks) and when I came back to take her home from lunch, she was already back at the hair salon having it put back in.

 

It was a lot of fun watching her and all the little kids with their "dos".

 

This is my gift to her.

 

I love the picture she drew me.

 

The funny thing is that when I got to the salon, I discovered that I had gone to the wrong one.

 

I got there a couple minutes early, so I sat down in the waiting area... and there were 3 other older ladies waiting there.

 

Now, it is my belief that this waiting area was specifically intended for them.
