I think it's interesting that Clarisse gets Montag thinking by asking questions--and now Montag is beginning to ask questions. Maybe that's the first step in becoming aware and self-conscious--asking questions.

When asked, Mildred didn't exactly respond whether the "White Clown" or if her 'family' loved her. She just countered back with a question, "why would you ask a silly question like that?", and told him to give the hound a kick if he sees it outside their door. Tracing back to when Clarisse had the sunflower and when Montag put it under his chin, she stated that he wasn't in love. It's very upsetting to see that they don't exactly "love" anyone around the area, that they're so brainwashed that they can't feel full emotions. I just wonder how many people are out there, like Clarisse or Montag, that question their morals and the society's regulations.

Why is it that the firefighters must dispose of the books, or works of literature in general, at the scene of the "crime"? Is it not possible to take the literary compositions, bring them to an area that is free of people and other potential items that are flammable, and proceed to light the blaze there? Perhaps it is more convenient to burn the books in the buildings they were residing in, since they are fire-proof and are able to withstand the flames, but going through the hassle ensures the safety of neighboring civilians, and prevents situations akin to the one Montag had experienced, with the old woman perishing with her books, from occurring. Perhaps this very event had to take place in order for Montag's character to develop, making the setup necessary, but I can't help but find it odd that they do not consider to take any safety precautions in order to protect their citizens and prevent—or at least reduce—their chances of getting caught in the inferno.

In this dystopian future firemen are meant to burn books. This is most likely done because it’s getting rid of power in a sense. Books provide information which in turn allows people to use it to their advantage in whatever their desire is. It’s odd how the government in the story has changed so dramatically compared to our current reality in real life. The even more peculiar aspect is that nobody seems to question it. Its only Clarisse and her family. This leads to my question as to why Clarisse and her family are the only people concerned and question why books are needed to be burned.

Was the death of Clarisse truly what they said it was? I feel like there was more to her death than just her getting “hit by a car”. Clarisse was definitely different, she was pretty much the odd one of the group and had a different mindset than other people who are her age. Clarisse questioned a lot of things about the world and the different things that people did, especially how the firemen worked. I feel like she knew too much, was a little too curious and that could have played a part in her death. After her death her family left, and I wonder if this just has something to do with the government. Her death was clearly a shock to me but something about the way her character was written stood out, and I guess that gave me the feeling that somewhere along the road something would happen to her.

When reading the book, I always thought that Clarisse's death was not really an accident. So my question is, Was Clarisse death caused by someone, a suicide or was it just a car accident? I believe this because she was always called, "crazy" and simply not what other people from her school would want to be around with. In the book she does not fit in with the other teenagers and tells Montag that she is scared of them. - Michelle Pagalunan

While reading the book I noticed how Montag described himself when he was stealing the book from the house. He described how he feels about himself by stating that "His hands had been infected, and soon it would be his arms. He could feel the poison working up his wrists and into his elbows and his shoulders." This quote from the book stood out to me because Bradbury seems to use a lot of metaphors while writing. This metaphor explains how Montag's conscience and body reacts towards books.
