In south Africa, the separation and the prejudice goes all the way back since the British and Dutch colonies took over. The segregation "officially" started in 1902, during the Boer War. Decades later, in 1960, a protest had started. In the protest the black Africans were trying to fight against the racial pass laws. During this protest 69 people were killed and 189 people were injured. This caused the government (of Dutch descents) to outlaw the African National Congress.

The conflict between these two believes had been around for over three centuries. It had officially began in the 17th century, when the British conquered the island nation, bringing Scottish Protestants. Before this the island was made up of mostly Roman Catholics. In the 1960's, the Catholics started to demonstrate their civil rights. During a peaceful protest on January 20, 1972, British paratroopers shot and killed 14 people and injured 17.
