One way we can improve in “abiding in Christ” is by supporting each other throughout this year. In the story, the speaker talks about how God nourishes the branches that bare fruit and cuts off the ones that do not. In a sense, we must nourish each other’s strengths and help keep the toxic “branches” away. Lifting one another up rather than tearing each other down is the best way to do better for ourselves and each other during this time.

Abiding with Christ equips us to bear the fruit of the Spirit. This means that staying close to Jesus and following His plan for us, we will build a better relationship with Him. If we walk with God in our troubles and hardships, we will see the effects Christ has on our lives. We need to abide by Christ by listening to His Word each and every day. From the story The Vine and the Branches, Jesus is the Vine while we are the Branches. So, just like the Branch is connected to the Vine, we abide by Christ and follow His way or where the Vine is going. And if we do not abide by Christ and depend on Him or the Vine, He cannot depend on us. Without the vine, the Branches or the Fruit is powerless. We need God in our lives to grow and prosper.

One way we can tangibly abide in Christ is by coming together as a Christian and Catholic community to support one another throughout difficult times. Through this we can support others through our shared values in Christ. As the story of the vine and the branches states, “No branch can bear fruit by itself, it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” This illustrates the fact that not everyone is meant to do everything on their own, so it is important that we come together as a community to support one another and look for the support of Christ by abiding in Him as a community of Christ.
