According to the Colorado Prison system, when a inmate is out of control because of his/hers mental health there is nothing else the officers working can do then place them in Solitary Confinement. Suprisingly many of the inmates when taken out had become better or their illness had gone down significantly. Spending time in the room alone allows the inmate to be alone and think, and that the other inmates may be the cause to their problems. Many prisons also make it so that every 90-100 days the prisoners mental health is checked.

1) provide safety and security to both inmates and fellow staff, while 2) also implementing programs designed to rehabilitate inmates so that they live as law-abiding citizens once they return to society.

Rules of Solitary Confinement

Not everyone can be placed into a solitary confinement cell, there are certain rules that go with them and all prisons and jails have to follow. Women who are pregnant and anyone under 18 years of age cannot be placed in a cell. They also must follow guidelines about what has to be in them, such as a bed, sink, toilet, etc. Many of the cells also must follow a uniformed size that differs from state to state. With these rules it makes it so that all the basic needs of the people are met and that people who are still developing are not being harmed.

No physcial harm is done

Even though they are placed in a room alone there is no phycial harm done to the inmates by the guards or other prisoner (or to them). By placing the inmate in the cell it elimates the possibility of them getting in a fight or causing trouble. The only harm that can be done to them is from themselves.
