I have worked in the UK National Health Service or NHS for over 15 years as a Radiotherapy Radiographer. In 2014, I left the NHS to co-found my first business venture. 

Although I have a Master’s degree in management, my first venture was a disaster; the product was loved by so many customers and was a success however the business failed. The main reason for this was that I made a mistake in not having a good legal contract in place to manage the business relationship with the other co-founder or maybe I paid more attention to the strength of the product and little on the team I chose.

Since 2017, I have been working on a project that supports a primary school in South Sudan. Currently, I am in the process of registering a charity with the Charity Commission in the UK to deliver quality education for young girls in Juba, South Sudan. This time, I have a better team for this project and we were able to develop the school from a class of 47 kindergarten children to a school that has over 600 pupils.

Every year 1,50,000 women die of only breast and cervical cancer in India. I wish to create health centers at primary health care level to address this issue. This needs 360 degree approach from awareness, screening and treatment. Primary health care is never a lucrative field for corporate to enter. I’m intending to solve this issue through a self sustainable business model. I’m starting a chain of centers called ‘Mahila’ (meaning woman in Indian languages) beginning with Karnataka. Since ‘retail’ is a totally different business, I wish to learn the core concepts of doing business through this course.

I was told repeatedly not to try and boil the ocean, but as most of you fellow entrepreneurs will know, it often good to listen politely then go ahead and do it your own way.  I reduced staff and customers to the absolute bare minimum and as a result have been free to hire to build the architecture as it should be.  I will soon be hiring/rehiring people to fit the new roles rather than having had to go through the pain of managing resistance and change.
By focusing on the highest value components first and forgetting about customers for a while we have gone from technology cave-dwellers to the forefront of our industry in less than six months.
Our position in the value chain is competitively weak, and the lead we have from using technology will be hard to defend over time, so I am undertaking this course to assist in my strategy and tactics to alter the competitive structure of the wider ecosystem in our favour.  I believe I understand the model that will work, and I'm hoping (well, expecting!) this course will help close the gap between the clouds and the tarmac.

I was a stay-at-home dad until a year ago, keeping busy raising my two children and volunteering for our local youth baseball club. I discovered I was good at this and ended up being the clubs Administrator for 7 years. This experience lead to me being elected as National Youth Baseball Commissioner for the British Baseball Federation, which is the National Governing body of Baseball in the UK. 
 
Before I moved to the UK, I was Marketing Director of the largest privately owned Packaging Company on the East Coast of the USA, located in Boston. 

The youth baseball league I volunteered for in London was unique in two ways. It was the largest youth league in Europe, with 600 players, and they had no permanent fields. With great coordination, each game day, the league was able to build 16 complete baseball fields, on public park, from one 40 foot shipping container in just over an hour.  The fields, specifically the backstop, were built from scrapes of nets and modified scaffolding poles. It worked, but the quality of play suffered, as they were under sized, heavy and trapped balls.  For the last ten years I made it my mission to improve this critical piece of baseball equipment, the pop-up baseball Backstop.  I just wanted kids to be able have better fields.

Over the years, I came up with many improvements and the backstops became bigger, lighter and easier to pop-up into standard ground sockets. About 18 month ago, friends encourage me to build them for other leagues, so I did. My company  is named BackBonz Systems and I now make 4 different models and is dedicated to popping-up baseball fields in Public Parks worldwide. I'm now at the point where I will quickly saturate UK market. I need a solid to business plan to grow my company.
