On days when SF students are not needing so much assistance either by refusal or grasping the skills/concepts independently well, I will make time to ask about their hobbies and interests. This allows me to get to know them better as well as relate assignments and work ethic to those things when they are struggling. That type of mindfulness is very helpful to me too in overwhelming circumstances like the loss of a loved one.
