The four surviving brothers, Zus, Asael, Tuvia, and Aharon were left to survive on their own. But despite being on their own they not only wanted to save their own life but their surviving family members as well. Once they had recruited at least 30 family members they fled to the Zabiedovo Perelaz woods. They had known some non-Jewish Belorussian friends and they helped them be able to  get German weapons. once they had enough weapons there was to be a liquidation at a ghetto and their jobs were to get as many people out.

The names of two of the boys are unknown but the names of the other three boys are Zus, Asael, and Tuvia. Tuvia was born in 1906, Zus was born in 1910, and Asael was born in 1908.  They had been a Jewish family and the brothers knew the religion well. They had lived in the village of Stankiewicze. Once the Germans occupied Belorussia the mom, dad, and two of the brothers were killed.

They had encouraged some of the Jews in nearby ghettos to come and live with them in the forest. After the ghetto liquidation there was more than 300 Jews living in the forest with the Bielski partisans.
