Everglades CISMA asserts that the Brazilian Peppertree is a dangerous plant to have around native species. While causing problems directly such as shading out native plants, they also cause more complex problems with their chemical release, inhibiting plants from growing around them.

In making this work, Dr. Pimental stresses how important it is that invasive species are kept in check. The environmental impact is rough as it is, but the economic impact hits many in the wallet due to this increasing problem. This accurate report, made in 2005, only reflects what damage had been done by then. Had this report been done again recently, the rise of that loss would be correlated with the increase of the non-native population present in the Everglades and the rest of the US.

If the invasive species do not subside, then they will have grave consequences on native plants and animals. Native plants and animals hold a disadvantage to introduced species due to the new species not being from the area. This means that predators that would normally limit there numbers are almost nonexistent, enabling them to compete with native species and push them out.

Once a problem starts affecting wallets is usually when decisive action is taken. However, as noted above, billions of dollars are being lost yet nothing major has been done. Could it be due to this money being non-liquidated, almost "potential" gains? Rather, it is the loss accumulated from hundreds of businesses and millions of individuals. As every year passes, the loses go up exponentially. If the many species were to spread out of state, this amount would merely be a bottomline.
