Before Brown vs. The Board of Education of Topeka, schools were separated by race and skin color. Schools of any other race other than white were not treated equally to the all white schools. The Supreme Court then ruled that "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal and that the laws requiring  
 white students and nonwhite  students to go to different schools were illegal." Segregation also violated the fourteenth amendment. This historical event changed the pathway for many nonwhite students, giving them equal education as white students, showing they are also equal as people as well. This forever shaped classrooms today. Today students of all different ethnicities share the same classroom.

This Act helps all students succeed, no matter their ethnicity and race. Several students in the education system come from homes where English is not their first language, and it is very important to help ALL students succeed in the American classroom. In 1874, this case (Stuart and Others v. School District No. 1 of the Village of Kalamazoo and Others) the "Michigan courts ruled that the school district could tax the public to support both high schools and elementary schools." By funding schools, students are able to get more access to things such as books, to help them get a better education. This helped shaped America's support for our education system. Students would "do activities such as songs and stories" as a learning tool. This helped these younger children understand the context more. Although the first kindergarten class was developed in 1837, it wasn't until 1873 the first public school kindergarten class was established, however, it started to spread rapidly across the United States. Kindergarten students would student objects, pictures, and would participate in activities to help develop their mind at a younger age. By helping a child develop their mind before elementary school, they are able to become more successful throughout their years elementary school and beyond.
