Engagement will be difficult to keep if all the lessons follow that format.<br>- Lessons will require teachers to do a lot of prep work to be able to get students ready to go back and forth between the books/journals/etc.<br>- so much stuff to look at </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My pros are that M-H has graphic organizers that cover compare and contrast, cause and effect, and sequencing.  Second grade also likes the fairness and equity of the program.  A possible con is that bottom line, can we easily access all these resources to put a lesson together for the short amount of time we have to teach the content?<br>Daryl</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1st<br><br>Pros<br>-videos<br>-paper write-on, send home readers are accessible (even if we have to read them with and to students)<br>-online read to students component is at a good pace and highlights each word<br>-Easy, medium and harder questions to earn points on the independent online activity<br>-Could be used in a center<br>-Leveled readers<br>-user-friendly site<br>-Doable in a 20-30 minute block<br>-Tech for students looks engaging and doable (e.g., adding a picture to statements made by the author that match the statements to create a Prezi)<br>-The writing could be writing or a discussion<br>-Simple and doable accommodations (e.g., read the text to students)<br>-integrated ELA discussion is aligned to the H/SS framework and the content of the unit<br>-Link to a song included for the teacher<br>-test seems reasonable and well-aligned to the text<br><br>Cons:<br>-TE is complete but it takes more than a glance to navigate without pictures of the student resources.<br>-Question levels can be deceiving.  Some of the high level questions only require a yes-no or brief answer.  If the teacher were to add why or explain, most of the questions would be at the higher level.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Studies Weekly<br><br>Pros:<br>*text was presented in a variety of ways: story like, expository/facts, narrative, questions that lead to inquiry<br>*Lesson plans were specific and easy to follow - easy for a new teacher to follow - yet allow for teachers to add on their own needs or not use pieces - and won't affect the outcome of the intended learning<br>*questioning seemed pretty accurate to the level provided - in this unit students read to learn and then were asked questions that forced them to think about how what they read about affects them<br>*literature links<br>*liked that each week there was a "community in California" highlighted, as well as an America Hero<br>*it feels like weeks can be pulled out and taught independently (i.e. to support an ELA unit/lesson) and don't HAVE to be taught in sequence</div>]]></description>

You can modify the presentation and delete slides that you don't want to do. The question rigor is good in the notebook. The activities are really engaging.<br><br>con: The activities are too much prep and I don't think teachers will buy into it. The program feels like another textbook versus the magazine. The differentiated instruction is rather vague for the EL support. </div>]]></description>
