On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked the U.S. military base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The Japanese had hoped to destroy the U.S. Navy with the attack but failed to do so. The next day, on December 8, 1941, the U.S. declared war on Japan and entered World War II. The picture used here is a famous image from the attack of Pearl Harbor. It shows a burning U.S. naval vessel, the U.S.S. West Virginia.
