Yes, I would. The picture shows a huge number of people and even a minister performing in unison, suggesting that they are performing for a big event or a big celebration for an occasion. Events that are really large like the one shown in the picture usually requires a lot of time and commitment from each individual performer. As such, I feel that in a way, it encourages the performers to spend time with each other during rehearsals and performances, thus giving them a great opportunity to bond with one another. I myself have actually experienced being a performer for a big event. Last year, along with almost every other secondary one student from my school, I participated in Singapore's National Day Parade 2016. Being a national scale event, during combined rehearsals, there was a lot of waiting for other performances to begin and end before ours, therefore, I just sat in one large room with a bunch of my schoolmates for hours and hours on end. The performers from my school did everything together. We performed together, we waited together, we even ate together. In order to not bore to death, I usually engaged in conversations with my friends and brought games like chess to school to play with them. Looking back, bonding with other performers was actually quite easy. Not only were we stuck together for a long time with nothing better to do, we all had one thing in common - our hatred for waiting. I felt that my bond with my friends was strengthened after the whole experience. Therefore, if given a chance to perform in a big event like the one shown in the picture, I would definitely go for it.

Yes, certainly I would enjoy being part of a performance like the one shown in the picture. The picture depicts a group of people and a minister, Mr Lawrence Wong, singing joyfully during the National Day Parade. In my opinion, the performers are feeling proud for performing their country. I believed that they had numerous rehearsals which is exhausting but fun. Their enuthusiasm fortifies their unison coming together as one to perform. Performing in front of a big group of people is not easy. This is indeed a rare opportunity for the performers to perform with the minister on a special occasion. This reminds me of the National Day Parade I had participated last year. I had gone through numerous rehearsals and at times, I was tired. The simple joy of performing to a large crowd and appearing in a national television lifted up my spirits. There were various schools and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) staff in the NDP. I would envy people who are specially talented and learn those skills from them. By being in a performance, I would feel proud and elated as I have did something interesting in my life. In this way, I will have a good bonding with different circle of friends. When I participated in the performance, I made new friends and exposed to different cultures of different people. By being a part of a performance, I would be able to overcome my fear and develop my confidence level. In a performance, I am acquiring a new talent which would be very useful in my daily life. Through this way, I would be all rounded and not specifically talented in one area.

Yes, in the past Singaporeans tend to appreciate foreign artistes more than local artistes. This is because many local artistes had less exposure to different types of art performances unlike foreign artistes. For an example, foreign artistes like One Direction travel to many countries to show their talents. In this way, their talent would be known to the people in various countires. This enabled them to become famous. On the other hand, some local talented artistes do not have enough money to upgrade themselves. If they seek help from sponshorships, they would be turned down by the sponsors. This made them very disheartened. Local artistes have a lot of talent but they are unable to showcase them to the public. However, there is an increase among Singaporeans to attend to local artistes' performances such as Dick Lee and Kumar who did stand-up comedy. The government and many private organisations have put their feet to help the talented artistes. This has encouraged more local artistes to use this platform to display their talents. In Singapore, Art is gaining popularity and there is a growing concern for this field. Even now parents allowed children to participate in the young talent quest. The local artistes now are now more matured in their performances. There has been a marked improvement in the number of patrons attending these shows. Many local artistes have started to participate in international competitions and many of them have won. Thus, I can conclude that at present local seen, artistes are greatly appreciated by Singaporeans. Our local artistes gaining international limelight.

I do not agree completely. On one hand, yes, Singaporeans do look up to and admire foreign artistes like Bruno Mars. I personally am interested in significantly more foreign artistes than local ones. On the other hand, this could be because of the low number of local artistes and thus the lack of recognition they get. Being a small country with a small population, Singapore has a lot less entertainers than USA or the UK. Therefore, there is a much bigger chance Singaporeans will stumble upon foreign artistes than local ones and grow attached to said artistes. Once the foreign artiste gets recognized, more people will get to know about that artiste and the local ones get no recognition in the first place, and so nobody shares about their work. However, this does not particularly mean that Singaporeans appreciate foreign artistes more than the local ones. An example would be a local band, the Sam Willows. Personally, I really enjoy their music and I do listen to them once in a while, just like how I do with every other artiste that I like. I can say that I prefer the Sam Willows to some other foreign artistes that I listen to, but also, I have some foreign artistes that I favour more than them. All in all, I believe Singaporeans do not appreciate foreign artistes more than local ones, but that they appreciate more foreign artistes than local ones.

No I think I would not like to be part of this performance. The picture shows many people holding sheets and singing, perhaps it is a choir rehearsal. though they look ecstatic, they must have put in a lot of time and effort to perfect their act. Also, it would be extremely embarrassing if the performers performed wrongly on stage. I performed during the national day once. Not only was half my June holidays wasted on the performance rehearsals, but the food the National Day Planing Committee was disgusting. Some people even fell ill after eating. to add insult to injury, the lights on my costume malfunctioned on the actual day of the performance. Thus, I will not want to be a part of this performance.

I think that in order to encourage people appreciate the arts more, More performances and art exhibitions should be held at a lower price. Many Singaporeans are not very keen on emptying their wallets on viewing the arts, so lowering the price is an ideal solution. Previously, the school had organised a trip to watch the musical Les Miserables. I did not have much interest in musicals, however, the school had only charged $60 to watch a $300 production in the Esplanade, which is what made me immediately sign up. That is why i feel that money plays a big role in order to encourage people to appreciate the arts.

I feel that foreign art is definitely more appreciated. Local art is relatively similar, charcoal drawings and paintings depicting the Singapore skyline. However, Foreign art is more exciting, it is more adventurous, it combines imagination with reality to form the perfect relationship. That is why so many people watch Korean Dramas instead of Singapore's original productions. That is why people in America experiment with black and blue lip sticks while most Singaporeans stick to the usual pinks and reds. Art in Singapore is not as audacious and exciting but is plain and simple. However there is a rise in local talents and local artists who are willing to push boundaries, creating a greater appreciation for local art. Thus, I feel that Singaporeans tend to appreciate foreign artists more than local talent with a few exceptions.

One really good way to get people to appreciate the Arts more is to get them to personally experience performing such Arts. As the proverb goes "You'll never know until you try it". I believe the reason why some people do not appreciate the Arts is because they do not really know how hard it is to perform them. As such, they will think that performing Arts is easy and thus will not have much respect for them. In order to solve this, parties such as schools and the government can encourage people to try to perform Arts and get a new experience to better their judgement of them and possibly get them to appreciate Arts more. One way that can be done is by giving opportunities such as lessons to people so that they can easily learn the Arts. A measure that the government is practicing currently is engaging secondary school students to volunteer as performers for National Day Parades. I have volunteered to participate, and the new experience of performing has changed my view of the Arts considerably. In the past, I remembered watching performers on National Day Parades and thinking that what they are doing was so easy, that I could do it without even putting much effort. Therefore, I did not respect that particular form of Arts much at all. However, after much effort, time and resources put into learning the choreography of my performance for National Day Parade, I no longer think that such a performance is easy. By trying it, I gained better and more accurate insight of how the Arts are performed, and appreciated the Arts more ever since. Therefore, giving people the chance to try performing Arts is quite an effective way to encourage people to appreciate them more.

We can encourage people to appreciate the arts more in many ways. Parents can help their children to appreciate arts by letting them to partcipate in art competitons such as drawing and playing musical instrument. Moreover, when they participate in these types of competitions, the children will feel excited to win attractive prizes. Not only that, they also can even developed their talents. This enabled children to be all rounded and not only focus on academics. In addition, the parents and teachers can bring their students to various locations such as art musuem, cultural musuem and even the Esplanade. Art museums not only help kids appreciate the visual aspect of art, it helps them develop emotional, verbal, and social skills. Art museums also improve children’s understanding of shapes, textures, and dimensions. Not only that, there will be a good bonding instilled between them. At young age, children can even read wordless picture books. Pictures can interpret stories, convey meaning, communicate ideas, and express emotion without the use of words. This is a very good way to develop an interest about art since young. Teachers can also encourage students to partcipate in art and music Co-Curricular Competitions such as SYF. By going there, they can meet like-minded people to improve their skills. The stakeholders, community clubs, schools and government bodies can encourage people to appreciate the Arts more. The community clubs can place banners and heartland malls to create awareness on the various arts programmes. The government bodies can advertise through radios and social media about arts. In my opinion, I am sure that this will create a great awareness about arts on the people. For an example, in the past, I had no interest in arts but my parents brought me to the near by community club to partcipate in the art competition. To my surprise, I won a prize. From that day onwards, it boosted my moral and interest in arts. Thus, in my view, these are the ways to encourage people to appreciate the Arts more.
