The grand Mount Taranaki (or mount egmont if you wanna get serious about this) is an active but quiescent stratovolcano in the Taranaki region on the west coast of New Zealand's North Island. although it is commenly referred to as Taranaki, it has two other names under the alternative names policy (yes that's actually a thing) of the New Zealand Geographic Board. The 2,518 metre tall behemoth is one of the most symmetrical volcanic cones in the world. Because it resembles Mount Fuji, it was used as the backdrop for the movie The Last Samurai, utterly mental. The mountains other names were Pukehaupapa and Pukeonaki, also Mount Egmont. The permenant name came from the words Tara which means mountain peak and ngaki meaning shining, so the name probably means "shining peak" due to the snow on top of it in the winter. The mountain has abit of history behind it, let's hope it doesn't erupt someday soon.
