It’s been a wonderful first week in Indigo class. The children have all settled in beautifully and they have enjoyed getting to know their new friends, new class and new teachers. We have enjoyed bucket time, maths, stories and lots of messy play too…… a perfect way to get back into the swing of things.

This half term topic is called “No place like home“ and we will be exploring animal homes and habitats, learning about our homes and family trees and enjoying the stories of the 3 Little Pigs and Goldilocks and the 3 bears.

The children are really enjoying it and get very excited when the big bad wolf blows down the houses!

We have been role playing the story in provision and it is lovely hearing the children use the repeated phrases such as "not by the hairs on my chiney, chin, chin".

This week, we have also learned about the Jewish new year festival, Rosh Hashanah. We learned about the tradition and then explored some Jewish foods such as bread, pomegranate and apples dipped in honey (to bring you a 'sweet' new year).

Our story for the next couple of weeks is 'The Three Little Pigs'. We have enjoyed the first part of the story this week, exploring the different materials that the pigs build with and using the props to retell the story. The children have event decorated their own house and pig masks.

We also welcomed parents to Indigo class for our Macmillian coffee morning, the children enjoyed making rice crisp cakes to sell (and also eat! yum).

It's been a great week!

We have enjoyed making (and eating) porridge during sensory baking, using oats to explore capacity and sensory play, making oat paint, creating bears masks and lots more!

The children have been busy making bears using their fine motor scissor skills, creating a family tree to display their family (just like the bear family), going on a bear hunt and exploring different types of measure in maths.

They ended the week with a wonderful time on the sensory playground.
