in act 3 scene 4, macbeth expresses that he will never be able to escape the feelings guilt and disdain, and will never be forgiven by god after he committed the ultimate sin of treason. he used to be one of the most respected soldiers and was the king’s loyal kinsman but now he is “cabin’d, cribb’d, confin’d, bound” into his “saucy doubts and fears”. the verb “confin’d” insinuates that he is never going to be able to escape his fate of being punished by god severely and going to hell in the afterlife, and that he will bring the guilt that he feels even into the afterlife and will never be free from it. alliteration is used here to emphasise

Macbeth is in fear as Fleance is still alive, which means the prophecy will continue. Macbeth feels that he is " cabin'd, cribb'd, confin'd, bound in To saucy doubts and fears." He tells us that he's feels like it's being confined and pushed into an area full of doubts and fears of Fleance becoming king and continuing the prophecy. The alliteration using the verbs "cabin'd, cribb'd, confin'd" all start with the letter C, which are plosives and that makes Macbeth sound harsh and messy, and that may reflect the way he thinks; he's mind is full of thoughts going in and out. To a Jacobean audience, they could have look down at Macbeth for being a coward even though he's had killed the former King, became a king and has killed many people before. To a contemporary audience like me, it tells us that Macbeth is filled with anxiety and this could fuel his insanity even more.

The noun could also be referring to Banquo, even if his blood has shed (he died) his son is still out there, his bloodline will continue to grow. Macbeth is torn between his loyalty to his best friend and his ambition. Violence breeds violence, and Macbeth is the source of alot of it, he kills people who he sees as a threat to himself. "They" could be referring to the witches, or maybe old sayings. The term "blood will have blood" could also be referring to revenge.

He believes that he is so deep in blood, and killed so many people, that to repent and give up killing is just as difficult as killing more people. The vivid imagery used in this quote is a powerful way of expressing just how much blood Macbeth has spilled. This is also Shakespeare's way of reminding us about the many murders Macbeth committed offstage. Macbeth is. Blood in this play also symbolises guilt, yet curiously Macbeth shows no guilt after his original regicide, only killing more and more people to cover up.

Macbeth’s says that he is ‘in blood/ Stepped in so far that should wade, no more/ Returning were as tedious as go o’er.’ The noun ‘blood’ symbolises guilt and death, therefore he is very guilty and he has committed too many crimes. He has ‘[s]tepp’d in too far, which means that he has believed the witch, and ‘returning’ would not do anything for him as he would be immediately executed. The adjective ‘tedious’ shows that he has lost all emotion and this means that this is the point that Macbeth has become a full tyrant. A Jacobean audience would probably be mad that he does not admit to his crimes because he needs to be punished.
