📌Reason and sources of hikmah from ibadah

The reason for hikmah (wisdom) in ibadah (worship) is that every act of worship ordained by Allah has an underlying wisdom or benefit, whether known or unknown to us. This is affirmed by scholars like Ibn Taymiyyah who stated that it is impossible for any ibadah to be without hikmah, as every command or prohibition in Islam carries wisdom. For example, rituals such as sa’i between Safa and Marwah or throwing jumrah during Hajj are meant to keep the remembrance (zhikr) of Allah alive in the believer's heart.

Sources of hikmah in ibadah come primarily from the Qur'an and Sunnah. The Qur'an describes hikmah as deep understanding, righteousness, and the ability to discern right from wrong, given by Allah to those He wills (e.g., Surah Al-Baqarah 2:269, Surah Luqman 31:12).The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) emphasized that wisdom is a divine gift and a lost property of the believer to be sought wherever it is found.

Additionally, hikmah involves not just knowledge but its practical application in ethical, spiritual, and compassionate ways aligned with Islamic teachings. It nourishes the soul, refines human character, and guides one to act justly and wisely in life.

Practical sources of hikmah in ibadah include:

- The Qur'an and Sunnah as revealed guidance

- Scholarly understanding and interpretation of shariah laws and rituals (hikmah tasyri’)

- Spiritual insight gained through acts of devotion, abstinence, and sincere worship, which Allah uses to plant wisdom in the believer's heart and tongue

Quranic ayah that relates to the reason and source of hikmah (wisdom) from ibadah is:

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:269

يُؤْتِي الْحِكْمَةَ مَن يَشَاءُ ۚ وَمَن يُؤْتَ الْحِكْمَةَ فَقَدْ أُوتِيَ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا

"He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good."

This verse highlights that hikmah is a direct gift from Allah, often linked to the knowledge and understanding gained through sincere worship and submission to Him, making it the clearest source and reason for hikmah in

In summary, hikmah in ibadah is the divine wisdom embedded in worship acts, sourced from Allah’s revelation and prophetic teachings, aimed at guiding believers toward spiritual growth, ethical conduct, and closeness to Allah.

Hajj and Umrah are deeply spiritual journeys that purify the soul by forgiving past sins when performed sincerely. These pilgrimages help believers draw closer to Allah, bringing peace and tranquility to their hearts. The experience strengthens faith and renews a person’s commitment to live a righteous life.

An accepted Hajj, known as Hajj Mabrur, is one of the greatest acts of worship with the promise of Paradise as its reward. Umrah, though shorter, also carries immense blessings and serves as an expiation for sins committed between one visit and the next. Both acts symbolize submission, humility, and devotion to Allah.

The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “The performance of `Umrah is an expiation for all the sins committed between this `Umrah and the previous one, and the reward for Hajj Mabrur is nothing but Paradise.” (Sahih Bukhari and Muslim) 🕋✨🙏 This highlights the immense spiritual benefits and the mercy Allah grants to those who undertake these sacred journeys with sincerity.

Usrah (family or group gathering) is a beautiful opportunity for us to come together, share, learn, and grow spiritually and emotionally.

When we gather in usrah, we are not just meeting to discuss religious knowledge; we are building a small family, a circle of trust, support, and love. Each person brings their own story, struggles, and hopes. In this safe space, we listen with open hearts and minds, reminding each other that we are never alone in our journey.

Usrah teaches us patience and empathy. It reminds us that faith is not just about rituals or rules but about caring for one another, lifting each other up, and sharing the light of hope during difficult times. Like the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, "The believers, in their mutual kindness, compassion, and sympathy, are just like one body." (Sahih Muslim)

In our busy lives, usrah is a pause, a moment to reconnect with our Creator and with our brothers and sisters. It is a reminder that Islam is a living, breathing experience that grows stronger when we nurture it together.

Let us leave each usrah feeling inspired to be kinder, more patient, and more committed to our faith and to each other. Because when we build each other up, we build a stronger community and a better world.
