Prompt: “Write about home.”

My writing was kept safe in my journal that I compiled my papelitos in. Having to write about home, I was mentally there, being able to feel the same emotions I had when I was younger, playing in that house. I often do this when I feel homesick or am reminiscing about my childhood. I decided to share this papelito since the topic of home is one of high importance for me, as it is one of the main memories I have of my childhood. This papelito reflected the course goal 3C, looking at conventions through genres. I believe that there is a very noticeable convention of home in my writing, usually having a serious yet sincere tone to encapsulate that specific feeling of being in your place.

Prompt: "Describe a time when you felt displaced, when you might have felt kicked out, bull dozed, or removed from a place you love. Why was it unjust and what do you think needs to be remembered about that place?"

This papelito took place relatively early in the semester. During that time I had been pretty sick. Reminiscing about home made me feel better, the warm feeling one gets with the idea of home is what kept my writing safe. I want to share this papelito because I really liked what I said at the end about remembering places. I said that “without them we lose a part of ourselves.” I still think that to be true, memories are what makes us us! I looked at the course goal 5B, recognizing and articulating how their values, goals, and/or circumstances inform their choices as writers. Seeing how home is again one of the main topics I use for my writing, I can see how the theme of family and unity is one of my main values, not only in life, but in my writing as well.

I chose to write this papelito in my computer, since it was the last papelito, I didn’t carry any books to class, and thought that it would be safe on my computer as it would always be tied to my account. At this time I was in a way better health condition than I was at the beginning of the semester, so I was grateful for the privileges which I have, taking us into the course goal I looked upon, 8D, proposing ways we can use our privilege to serve others and work towards justice. I hope that one day I can be successful enough to be able to help people like me who are in need of privileges, especially in the medical side of things. I decided to share this papelito because I think we should all be aware of our own privileges, so that we are grateful for them.

U1A1 was a great assignment to get introduced to both this Latinx English 102 class, as well as our first writing piece. In this assignment we were tasked to find observations about a special place for us, and draw inferences from these observations. Being able to conduct “on-site research” really made me feel more confident with it as it didn't feel like research, it was more of a scouting out and writing whatever came to mind. I am excited to conduct more of this type of research in the future as it was both fun and led to a well written paper.

I really enjoyed this assignment. Thinking about it, it might be in a close tie for first with the fotonovela assignment! This assignment served to get us used to writing vividly about a specific place, being able to profile it down to the minor details. Knowing that I enjoy writing about home and things about my childhood, this assignment was perfect for me as I was able to reflect upon myself and produce my piece. Realizing now how much home means to me, I think I will focus more on it in the future when I produce more pieces of text.

I never really enjoyed peer reviews until college. I used to think that they were mostly tedious and time consuming, after actually paying attention to them however, I realized that both receiving and giving feedback has its benefits! It was really nice to be able to read someone else’s fotonovela, and give them advice and compliments on their work. I really enjoyed how my final draft turned out. I had an original vision for it, and it turned out exactly how I wanted to, and of course with the help of my peers, I was able to perfect it to the best of my abilities. I had never done anything like a fotonovela before, so I’d like to think that I will remember it, and maybe even use this form of text in future projects.

If you find a source that has context about your specific topic or research question, that source can be used to draw inferences from there or from other sources. I have always hated research, I don’t even think that it is hard, I just think it can be so time consuming. However I realized that a quick 3 term search can give you pretty accurate and relevant information that can be used quickly.
