But everyone is pretending like nothing happens the stores are opened, everyone is going to work and Lisa still has to go to school  and it's annoying because everyone keeps acting like they don't even care but Lisa father is getting really annoyed because he has to help them for he his a doctor and has to do what he is meant to  do

 

chapter 1: real world 

Stefan:

was trying to act like it was ok because he kept yelling over and over saying

they surrendered. We never even tried and he was maybe upset at the same time he did not seem to care but he also looked like he was about to cry.

Mother and Father:

Mother: Lisa's mom was terrified as she woke her husband. She was

standing by the living room window looking outside and she was

terrified.lisa’s dad was so mad because he had to treat them since he was a

doctor.

Lisa:

Lisa was scared and annoyed that she had so many emotions going on and

she was also frustrated that she probably wasn’t able to do anything about

what was going on.

lisa was anxious for Stefan because she knew they would get in trouble if they

got caught but they don’t actually know what would happen.

meeting on the war ground getting ready to kill your enemy because you were told they were evil

or if u did not kill they they would kill you first war is bad especially when what you are fight for

is worthless; they killed a lot of innocent people for nothing.

Lisa has  decided to follow her brother and his friend to find out what they were up to because she overheard them talking the night before so she followed them after school. She found out they were trying to do something  and they collected a package from a random guy in a winter coat. 

 Things the resistance did

   They bombed the construction sites 

   Made weird cartoons and ugly Germans 

   And bombed the important sites 

  Through leaflets and newspapers they    told the people what was really going on.

8. At the end of the chapter, Lisa is waiting anxiously for Stefan. Why? (1)

She was anxious for Stefan because she knew they would get in trouble if they got caught.

A man causes the death of a second man is just like the germans invading denmark and killing innocent people for no reason at all i feel like the germans should also die or rot in jail for the pain they have caused to innocent people and their families for no reason , i don't think they should get a death sentence either i think they should rot in jail sob they could feel how many families felt when they lost a member or their families just for bringing a life to earth or for dancing to songs. and i feel like they should feel the torture and feel what others went though and the pain and sadness of families

This was in the first chapter when the Germans were flying. Lisa heard buzzing because of the planes around them she was scared. it was going to sting me. It is so painful  for a bee to sting you just like how war hurts a lot of people and families and she felt like it won’t go away just like how war feels like forever.

2 .“I leap off, dragging my bag, run into the grass and trees beside the stop, and finish throwing up. Then I sink down by my sack. I’m weak, I’m shaking. I think I’m crying, and my mouth tastes terrible. I want to go home. How did I get myself into this? I think back to the streetcar. All those people – they saved me. Maybe they saved my life.” (p. 29)

lisa is scared she is scared she is going to get in big trouble and she is going to get taken away if they see what is in that bag she was so scared she felt so sick and after throwing up she is weak and scared shaking in fear that something might happen but she got help when all the people on the streetcar helped her and pushed her out telling her to run almost like they knew what was in that bag or what was going to happen next. She knew all those people saved her life or she thinks they just saved her.


3. “She whispers to me, ‘That was for Mama and Papa. But it was only the first.’ She’s actually enjoying herself.

A chill runs down my spine. My God, I think, these Germans are dragging us all down to their level. How will we keep ourselves better than them?” (p.46)

sussane is happy she got her revenge they killed her parents beasaus of the music they liked they bombed a resturant right next to their  house and she lost her parents she was was so mad but she got her revenge. lisa on the other hand is scared she knows what they are doing is wrong or she thinks but  what sussanne did was not so bad after all the germans have done  more than what they just did, lisa knows that the they and the germans are now on the same level they just killed and blew up a factory just like the germans and she is asking the question how do we keep ourselves better than them because they have also killed.


4.“ ‘No, Father, it can’t be!’ I cry. I’m not willing to accept what he’s getting at. What does it matter that we are Jewish? I don’t feel any different than anyone else, and I’m not treated differently. Now will I have to be only a Jew? Is being a Jew all that’s important about me? The very name Eichmann makes me feel sick to my stomach.” (p. 57)

Lisa is mad ,devastated and scared at the fact that they have to leave their home where they have lived their whole life but now they have to move because some people don’t like them. They are being treated badly because they are jews is being jew that bad that they despise them so much. the name Eichmann makes lisa feel sick because he  was a German-Austrian SS-Obersturmbannführer and one of the major organizers' of the Holocaust – the so-called "Final Solution to the Jewish Question , his full name was Adolf Eichmann german-Austrian SS officer and one of the major organizers of the Holocaust.

5.“ ‘I’m afraid there will be no service tonight at the synagogue,’ Father continues. ‘Rabbi Melchior told everyone at the early service that he’ll be closing the  synagogue. He’s going on holiday.’

I almost laughed. The rabbi going on holiday on Rosh Hashanah?

Then it hits me.” (p.62)

Lisa is scared there won't be service at the synagogue. The father, Rabbi Melchior, told everyone he is going on a holiday. Lisa thinks it is funny until she realizes that he's probably also running away.

''has anyone seen my dog? he's about to he high using his hand to show what he meant along, the Germans were so mad but everyone laughed. when Lisa got home Susanne ran into the room and pulled a gun out of her purse and said quietly hide this, she said do u remember the two men we met the other day with Stefan, they are both dead she was shaking and so was I, we were both scared.   

Lisa met her dad at the hospital and he was still busy with paperwork so she helped him out. She had to fill out some forms, choosing different times of admission, for example over the next two weeks her mom and Stefan are new admissions. they have all been put in the psychiatric wing. it's empty and the children in the children's ward. At around 5 Lisa's dad took her and Sarah up to the ward where they would be staying. About 30 other people had arrived, some of them whole families, single people, young, old and most people Lisa knew. 

it's dark now Sarah, Lisa and there mom had to stay in on side while her dad, Stefan and Eric on another, many other people have arrived, Lisa saw two of her friends and families, many acquaintances, some crying quietly and some are just very scared, the nurses that worked at that hospital had to give some people sedatives just to keep them quiet.

Lisa and her family had been going through so much and they have stayed together as a family. in Ukraine many families had been separated and can't find each other anymore .

 It is going to be hard because the harbor is full of German ships and patrol boats, they would have to take then to the coast and if they are lucky they should only have to stay there for half an hour then they would be shipped south by fishing boats since those were the only boats that could be on the water.

Eric also found out that his parent were dead when a doctor told them all the homes have been raided, Eric spent most of his time crying and he wasn't crying he would be crying for his parent and it came to a point where Stefan and 2 others had to hold him down so they could give him sedative now he just sit and never talks to anyone not even Lisa because he is embarrassed. 

The Morning after 30 more Jews arrived it looked like they were having a funeral. They were moving towards the chapel in the hospital and about twenty minutes later all the black shrouded mourners were being ushered into the psychiatric  wards. When they were all being ushered in Lisa recognized one of the girls from her class her name was Lissen she was a small, dark girl just about Lisa age. 

She was hiding with some friends. They had a lot of them staying at different places but in the same neighborhood. Her brother is an intern in the hospital so he knew they still had room so he arranged something. They were very lucky at the fact that they actually pulled the fake funeral charade without being caught was impressive. Lisa dad heard only a few hundred Jews  out of eight thousand have been captured. 

They have all been moved into a truck and they don't know when they would be stopped anytime the van stops. Lisa holds her breath thinking if this would be the last time she would see everyone she loves. They got there safely, separated and spread out around the bushes, Lisa was looking for Stefan until she heard a loud screeching noise. A man split his wife and kids and himself but he did not die fully. The boats that were meant to pick them up decided to raise the money even though they had already paid. They all have to stay in a safe house until someone can collect a reasonable amount of money.

Lisa has decided to stay and now the hardest thing is to tell her parents and let them go, especially her baby sister because she doesn't know when next she would see them or even if she would, all she wants is for everyone to be safe.
