Q: Do you believe addiction is a disease?

A:Good question. 
I’m torn, to me it’s like a cold, you can catch it in time but if you don’t you will have a full blown disease. I never felt like I had a disease I had a problem a fixable problem.

Q: Do you think drug abuse is voluntary?
A: Yes and no 
I was introduced way to young For me to know what was happening before I figured out I could quit....but at that point all that mattered was the addiction.  Once you’re down the rabbit hole you’re down the rabbit hole,

Q: Do you have a hereditary predisposition to addiction?
A:With Alcohol, yes.

Q: Did you have environmental influences?
A: Yes and I won’t get into those don’t want to hurt those I love.

A: No, I know this contradicts common 12 step theory, but I believe it is a genetic predisposition that is triggered by certain chemicals produced in the brain when stimulated by specific other chemicals. thus some addicts go for, say meth while others gravitate towards opiates.

Q: Do you believe drug abuse is voluntary?
A: It starts that way, and ends that way. Somewhere in the middle it becomes compulsive.

Q: Do you have a genetic presidisposition to addiction?
A: Yes, definitely.

Q: Did you have environmental influences?
A: That sounds like somewhere, someone is looking for a place to point their finger & say" I was a victim". There are ALWAYS influence factors, but the bottom line is that we are all responsible for our own decisions, actions, or lack there of..... so my answer has to be no.

A: Hmm, never thought about it that way 

Q: Do you believe drug abuse is voluntary?
A: Initially, yes! You make the choice to try something. After that prob depends on the person and their dependency on things. While being a smoker I would always find a way to have a quit cigarette cause I needed one, but once I made the conscious decision to quit I did.

Q: Do you have a genetic predisposition to addiction?
A: Not sure I can answer that honestly...both my parents smoked, one still does. Dad and brother drink a lot! Brother has dabbled in drugs but just here and there, nothing consistent. So if I had to guess I would say no? Each of us has quit when we wanted to. Does that make sense?

Q: Did you have any environmental influences?
A: Mostly social stuff, going out with friends we were always going out for a smoke. Also, and the hardest part about quitting was driving in the car! 

A: I think addiction and the physiological symptoms it produces is a disease, but I do not think that addiction itself is a disease.  People do not choose to have a disease; they make a choice that leads to addiction.

Q: Do you think that drug abuse is voluntary?
A: I think for the most part it is.  The only exclusion would be the current opioid crisis which would include the over prescription of pain killers by doctors.

Q: Do you have a genetic predisposition for addiction?
A: I was adopted, so I don't know.

Q: Did you have environmental influences?
A: Maybe the influence of friends.  I was raised upper middle class. My parents don't drink, smoke, or do drugs.

A: I believe it to be a self manifested problem that is quite easily fixed, given that the addict is ready and willing to fix it.

Q: Do you believe drug abuse is voluntary?
A: As long as someone isn't there with a gun to your head saying "do drugs", yes.

Q: Do you have a genetic predisposition to addiction?
A: I think its very possible.  I don't have much personally to base it on, but I have seen a definite pattern in other families.

Q: Did you have environmental influences?
A: It is a very definite factor for some, but personally for me, not really.

A: Of course, a particular quality, habit, or disposition regarded as adversely affecting a person or group of people is a definition of disease so an addiction to something creates habits which in return create a disease.

A: Yes.

Q: Do you have a genetic predisposition to addiction?
A: Yes, my father is an alcoholic.

Q: Did you have environmental influences?
A: Didn't have people around me getting high or anything  if I am understanding the question correctly.  I was in a bad car accident where I broke my several vertebrae and herniated several disks in my neck. So after surgery I was given pain killers and nerve medicine so I could move or play with my kids. But after a while I realized even tho I was now physically able to do so I was still mentally impaired and it was a state I did not want to be in.
