         <title>Health and safety at work Act 1974</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Often referred to as HASAW or HSW, this Act of Parliament is the main piece of UK health and safety legislation. It places a duty on all employers "to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work" of all their employees.<br><br></div><div><br>Among other provisions, the Act also requires:<br><br></div><ul><li>safe operation and maintenance of the working environment, plant and systems&nbsp;</li><li>maintenance of safe access and egress to the workplace&nbsp;</li><li>safe use, handling and storage of dangerous substances&nbsp;</li><li>adequate training of staff to ensure health and safety&nbsp;</li><li>adequate welfare provisions for staff at work.</li></ul>]]></description>

There is a COSHH training course that educates you regarding how COSHH works, how to avoid any incidents and how to keep your work place a hazard free environment. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Animal Welfare Act (2006)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The animal welfare act is a combination of 19 different pieces of legislation surrounding the welfare of animals. This legislation makes it a criminal offence to cause any unnecessary harm or suffering to an animal. This act applies to all animals, however any animals undergoing animal testing are not affected by this act. Section 9 of this legislation makes it people's responsibility to make sure they take the correct steps and precautions in all eventualities in order to meet the animal's needs to a desirable standard.<br>The five welfare needs of an animal are:<br>•a suitable enrivornment<br>• a suitable diet<br>• allowing an animal to express normal behaviour<br>• desirable living standards for the species<br>• to be free from pain, suffering and disease </div>]]></description>

There are plenty of business benefits:<br>•   A reduction in the number of working days lost due to illness and injury<br>•   Retain your staff<br>•   Motivate your workers and boost productivity<br>•   Protect the reputation of your company<br>•   Shield yourself from potential legal action and reduce your insurance premiums<br><br>Health and safety law states that you must manage the risks in the workplace. Therefore, it is vital that you identify the elements which could harm either your staff or the general public.          <description><![CDATA[<div>RIDDOR is the law that requires employers, and other people in control of work premises, to report and keep records of: </div><ul><li>work-related accidents which cause death; </li><li>work-related accidents which cause certain serious injuries (reportable injuries); </li><li>diagnosed cases of certain industrial diseases; and </li><li>certain ‘dangerous occurrences’ (incidents with the potential to cause harm). </li><li>There are also special requirements for gas incidents (see ‘Reportable gas incidents’). </li></ul><div>For the purposes of RIDDOR, an accident is a separate, identifiable, unintended incident that causes physical injury. This specifically includes acts of non- consensual violence to people at work. </div><div>Not all accidents need to be reported, a RIDDOR report is required only when: </div><ul><li>the accident is <strong>work-related</strong>; and </li><li>it results in an injury of a type which is <strong>reportable </strong>(as listed under ‘Types of </li><li>reportable injuries’). </li></ul><div>The list of 'specified injuries’ in RIDDOR 2013 (regulation 4) includes: </div><ul><li>a fracture, other than to fingers, thumbs and toes; </li><li>amputation of an arm, hand, finger, thumb, leg, foot or toe; </li><li>permanent loss of sight or reduction of sight; </li><li>crush injuries leading to internal organ damage; </li><li>serious burns (covering more than 10% of the body, or damaging the eyes, </li><li>respiratory system or other vital organs); </li><li>scalpings (separation of skin from the head) which require hospital treatment; </li><li>unconsciousness caused by head injury or asphyxia; </li><li>any other injury arising from working in an enclosed space, which leads to </li><li>hypothermia, heat-induced illness or requires resuscitation or admittance to hospital for more than 24 hours. </li></ul>]]></description>

By law it is required for employers, as well as people who are self-employed and people who are in control of a premises, to report specified incidents in the workplace. These can include a wide range of things such as dangerous occurrences (when a serious accident was luckily avoided) all the way to work related deaths.</div>]]></description>
