For five shows, 2.6 million new subscribers are needed, or, 1/115 of all Americans. the companies revenue is estimated at around 6 billion, Netflix is publically funded as people subscribe to it, it is not owned by a conglomerate and does not own a subsidiary.
Reed and Marc used the internet to rent movies on DVD and then by 1999 netflix adopted a monthly subscription model, unlimited rentals for a single month rate
in 2006, the company announced $1 million "Netflix Prize" encouraging people to come up with a better algorithm than its current recommendation system.
Netflix moved onto streaming in 2007, 3 years later the service had topped 20 million subscribers. and still growing due to shows like breaking bad and house of cards which were netflix originals and could only be viewed on Netflix, the first season of house of cards premiered febuary 1 2013, netflix had invested $100 million for 2, 13- episode  seasons which was a huge risk due to the high price but the first season evuntually earned eight Emmy nominations and greatly increased Netflix's visibility, as of the middle of the 2014, netflix has more than 50 million subscribers, its stock price is well over $400 a share.
