The idea that in order for this compromise to be good, it needs to be kept in balance. Shows how the poeple of the states have a say it what happens.

Compromise of 1850

The compromise of 1850 was to figure out how to control and manage imbalance of free and slave states. This is not a democracy movement because the people of the North and South did not agree to that. The people from the North are upset because now they have to enforce slavery. The south are upset because it's not balanced anymore. The people did not have a say.

Kansas-Nebraska Act-1854

People in Kansas are voting if they want to get rid of slavery. This is an act of Democracy because they are starting to rebel. Or in other words, them voting is showing how they are able to have a say in what happens. That the government doesn’t fully control the people.

This was an antislavery senator from Massachusets gave a speech about dissing the senators who owned slaves. This is a democratic move because the south was agreeing with the speaker, meaning that the movement began. WHile the North was not a fan of the angry speech. This means that the People where not standing against some of the senates.

John Brown's Raid- October 1859

John Brown's was a person against slavery, Although this raid failed and Brown was put to death. This was not an act of democracy because when the people heard that this raid failed some believed that he was a martyr but some believed that he was a terrorist. Meaning that this was not an act of democracy, but instead just a failed movement.

Election of Abraham Lincoln- 1860

The election of Abraham was when he only won 40% of the votes. This was a democratic act because they would not agree on voting on the same person. Adding on, this meant that there was more controversy in the people causing them to want to go against each other. Meaning, that some would rebel against the congress.
