Mia wants to communicate with her Abuela who only speaks Spanish but Mia doesn’t speak Spanish and Abuela doesn’t speak English. So, Mia started learning Spanish at school and practicing at home with Abuela. Then, Mia and Abuela were able to better communicate through cooking, talking and bonding over cultural stories. Finally, Mia and Abuela were able to speak to each other in Spanish and they grew closer than ever, building a strong relationship. The theme of this book is that the power of language can help grow connections across generations.
