An accident occurred on April 26, 2006 when a semitrailer crossed the line on I-69 and hit a van from Taylor University. Five people were killed and four lived. All four who lived were injured. All families from the accident were notified about the accident. All parents and other Taylor University students went to the hospital to hear more about Laura, or went to Taylor University to find out more on the accident. The only student from the van who survived was told as "Laura Van Ryn".

Each victim of the accident were verified. Names were Laurel Erb, Brad Larson, Betsy Smith, Monica Felver, and Whitney Cerak (Laura Van Ryn). There were four survivors of the accident, Laura Van Ryn (Whitney Cerak), Connie Magers, Vickie Rhodes, and Michelle Miller. Nobody believed this event actually happened. All students thought it was a dream, that none of it really happened. Until everyone met up at the church to hear more about the accident.

During therapy Laura started to drop hints that she was actually Laura. Everybody including the doctors looked over stating that it was normal. Laura's sister started to believe that the girl in the hospital was not Laura. They started running tests and ended the confusion. The girl in the hospital was actually Whitney Cerak.

Whitney's family was then contacted with the news that she was alive. Carly Cerak would not believe that Whitney was alive. Once Carly saw her sister she fell to the ground crying. After that Whitney's real family stayed with her the entire time. Whitney was transferred to dofferent clinics for different disabilities and her family moved with her.

Whitney was released from the hospital and re-entered college. Whitney hated it when she first arrived because she was a college student with an eighth grade brain level. She called her family so many times asking to come home but they kept saying stick it out for one more semester. One day she called saying that she had become the brain level of a sophmore in college. After that she never asked to come home.
