With newer, updated furniture in the classroom, students will have more flexibility in their environment. As a special educator, my demographic of students tends to need flexible seating to ensure focus needs since that is an area that most struggle with. It will establish routine and comfort and the student will feel more individualized. With the horseshoe table, small group instruction will be more attainable which will help the student get that 1-1 attention. The movable desks will help students get a better opportunity to work together as well as have the option of working independently. The purpose for the rocking chairs gives students the freedom to let out any fidgets they have, which contrary to popular thinking, movement may actually help the student focus. The goal for this classroom design is to continue with my philosophy of education, which is every student has the opportunity to learn in the way that makes sense to them, and with flexible seating, this can be the physical part of the philosophy I’ve envisioned.

My name is Natalie Barretta and I am here today to change the way students learn mathematics in our schools. We all remember those old-fashioned classrooms with rows of uncomfortable desks, but times have changed and so should our approach to learning.

Children spend several hours per day sitting at a classroom desk. We know for many children this could hinder learning and decrease overall engagement in the classroom. But imagine if we had classrooms that have sit to stand desks and flexible seating giving students the option to stand when needed and move desks to collaborate freely. These desks can promote teamwork along with a dynamic and healthier learning environment to engage all types of learners.

But that’s not all, folks. We are adding to our flexible seating option to include wobble stools, high top tables, stem research areas, whiteboards, and tables to fully enhance focus and engagement. Picture a classroom full of engaged learners, mathematics talk, free movement, and areas for all learners to feel comfortable. The opportunities are endless for our students with this student-driven enhanced classroom environment.

I hope that you can join me in reshaping the way our children learn and grow! Together, we can create a healthier, more dynamic educational experience for generations to come.

As an elementary school teaching team we are embarking on a journey to reimagine our classroom, sparked by the unique needs of our students. We use student needs as our inspiration. We have one student who struggles heavily with any auditory distractions. She needs quiet places or ways to block out background noise so she can concentrate and learn. Witnessing her challenges ignites our passion for creating an inclusive space. She helped us to realize the importance of offering individualized learning environments.

Simultaneously, we had another student with significant ADHD who absolutely thrives through movement. His energy and enthusiasm are infectious, pushing us to explore ways to integrate physical activity into our daily routine. It has become clear that a one-size-fits-all approach isn't enough.

So, our vision for a redesigned classroom is born—a space where each student can flourish. Flexible seating options cater to the auditory needs of some, while others have the freedom to move, fostering engagement and focus. Well-placed technology ensures equitable access for all. Picture a dynamic environment where learning extends beyond traditional boundaries. We plan to break out of the mold by using project-based learning to help students be able to communicate, collaborate, create, think critically, and solve problems!

We aren't just updating our classroom; we are crafting an experience tailored to the diverse needs of our students. We hope you'll help us celebrate our mission to create a space where every child's unique strengths are celebrated, setting the stage for a future of inspired learning

Hi! I'm Sandy Fitzpatrick, a passionate kindergarten teacher who believes in creating an environment where the youngest minds can thrive. As a former fidgety child myself, I truly understand the challenges of being expected to sit still at a desk all day. Now, as an educator, I want to revolutionize the learning experience for my students.

I am seeking support for a classroom transformation project that focuses on introducing more flexible seating options and innovative furniture. Imagine a classroom where desks are replaced with functional tables and mobile learning centers on wheels, allowing students to move freely and engage with various activities. This approach not only caters to the diverse learning styles of each child but also fosters an environment that encourages creativity, collaboration, and a love for learning.

With your help, we can create an ideal space where our kindergarteners can explore, discover, and learn at their own pace. Let's break away from traditional constraints and empower our littlest learners to embrace a dynamic and flexible approach to education. Together, we can make a lasting impact on their educational journey. Thank you for considering this exciting opportunity to transform our kindergarten classroom!

If I had to pick a word for my ideal classroom set-up, it would be choice. With the rigor and structure of today’s curriculum, students have less time to be themselves. In my dream classroom, I’ve created a spot for every student. Standing desks, small groups, privacy–there’s something for everyone. My dream classroom has pockets of space for every learner and every activity. Our goal as teachers isn’t just to help them learn, it’s to help them become better people. What better way to do that than to help them develop the habits, problem solving-skills, and autonomy to grow?

Mary McLeod Bethune was a passionate educator and presidential advisor. In her long career of public service, she became one of the earliest black female activists that helped lay the foundation to the modern civil rights movement. HOwever, one of her biggest contributions to the movement, was becoming an educator. She saw the education in front of her and wanted more. She fought and paved the way to reimagine what education could look like for her. Her philosophy was “Enter to learn. Depart to Serve. Her students were encouraged to use their gifts and talents to engage in the global economy to make the world a better place.

“Enter to Learn. Depart to Serve.” That is a quote I have on the back of my classroom wall. It is the first thing students see when they walk in.

As a high school social studies educator and trauma informed specialist, I am writing to propose an investment in new classroom furniture that will significantly contribute to fostering a positive learning environment while empowering students to think critically and tackle real-world problems. In recent years, educational research and trauma informed theories have underscored the importance of creating dynamic and adaptable learning spaces. When students feel a sense of belonging, they feel as though they can make a difference in their world. And when students are empowered in their learning, they can, in fact, change the world.

The acquisition of flexible and ergonomic furniture is a strategic move to transform our classrooms into spaces that better align with modern teaching methods and the diverse learning styles of our students. By providing seating options such as flexible desks, collaborative tables, standing desks, and alternative seating arrangements we can create an environment that encourages active participation, collaboration, independent thinking, all getting students ready to serve the world.

Space Travel Consultant, Artificial Intelligence Specialist, Self-Driving Car Mechanic.... These are the jobs of future, however, we are still designing classrooms for the jobs of the past.

Education in the 21st century must meet the needs of students currently and prepare them for jobs of the future. We need to prepare students for these new jobs by giving them the skills they need, such as, collaboration, problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity. Since I am a science teacher and an Engineering Club Advisor, my classroom must meet the needs of my students today and in the future. I have a vision for my classroom that will bring it into the 21st century and meet the needs of my students and be a place where students are comfortable and free to explore, collaborate, design and learn together. Here is what I envision:

STEM Workstations- to complete labs and hands-on activities with groups of varying sizes.

Group Discussion Areas- to discuss, reflect together, and plan. A relaxing area.

Independent Learning Areas- To complete independent assignments, read, reflect...

Standing Desks/Areas- for students that do not like to sit

Teacher Stations- Set- up to conference with students and be mobile in the classroom. Also, a comfortable teacher space to plan lessons and monitor student progress.

Technology- For students to work individually, and collaboratively and to connect with other students around the globe.

Science- Related Supplies- more in tune with the 21st century- NOT TRIPLE- BEAM -BALANCES!
