Santa Anna ordered a red flag raised at the San Fernando Church which sent a message to the Texans that they would receive no mercy. Travis then writes his famous Victory or Death letter and calls for reinforcements. The Texans would wait for  reinforcements from that would never come. On March 1, day 8 of the siege, 32 men from Gonzales entered the Alamo. On March 5, Santa Anna ordered troops to prepare to storm the fort. On March 6, before dawn, the Alamo had fallen.

The battle lasted 18 minutes, but the Texans spent a few more hours hunting down the Mexicans.
