- Structure and minimum configuration for generic cabling within homes;
 
- Interfaces at the telecommunications outlet (TO) and broadcast outlet (BO);
 
- Performance requirements for cabling links and channels;
 
- Implementation requirements and options;
 
- Performance requirements for cabling components;
 
- Conformance requirements and verification procedures.

BS 7671 sets the standards for electrical installation in the UK and many other countries. The IET co-publishes BS 7671 with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and is the authority on electrical installation.

First published in 1882! Titled ‘Rules and Regulations for the prevention of Fire Risks Arising from Electric Lighting’, and known as the "Wiring Rules"

The current version is BS 7671:2018 (the 18th Edition) issued in 2018 and comes into effect from 1 January 2019.
