"This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of the withering injustice" I chose this quote from the text because it makes me think a little more. It makes me think why would they give people false hope. Why would the say something as important as that, and afterwards break their promise. It's injustice because no one should be judged by the color of their skin but by their content, by the way they are. I connect to this because mostly everyone is hated for something some point in their lives so at times people "run on fuel" by the hatred they received to prove them wrong about hating them. By this I'm meaning that people strive to succeed in the future because they just want to prove people wrong about hating them and go in the wrong path. This is a literary device because this is a metaphor saying that Dr. King refuses to believe that there is no justice anymore. That justice is, "bankrupt," and can't defend the rights of a black person.

In this metaphor it is comparing the storm to persecution, this means that the Negros would constantly receive ill-treatment. It is also comparing the winds and police brutality, this means that there would be an excessive use of force whenever the Negros try to protest for their freedom. I found this metaphor in lines 7-9 " One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination." This is a metaphor because Dr King is comparing how the Negro are being treated unequal and the manacles of segregation as well as chains of discrimination.  This shows the suffering and the injustice that the people were going through.
