Before, what I only knew about paintings is that they are just like pictures which represent an image or a message with the use of paint. I did not know anything about the strokes or the styles of painting. When I see paintings, I just classify them as something that is drawn by the artist and colored with the use of painting materials. It was kind of hard for me to appreciate and understand paintings especially the abstract ones.

What I'd like to learn

I'd like to learn more about how and what the thinking processes of the artists we will be discussing such as Michael Angelo, Raphael, Leonardo Da Vinci, etc. think of when they're deciding on what they'll paint. I also would love to learn on the different styles and techniques in painting if there are. I also would want to know the different mediums in painting and the process of how a masterpiece is created. I also would want to know if paintings from before are still so relevant now and how much its value is today. I'd also want to see if I am able to distinguish and interpret the different paintings as I am weak at that field.

Post - Module

After the module on painting I am proud of how I turned out to be. In the beginning I didn't really get to enjoy much because we discussed very broad terms which didn't peak my interest. However, diving deeper into then lesson, I learned to appreciate the paintings and the artists behind the masterpieces. I have three of my favorite paintings that really got me into the module and made me want to further research on more interpretations on the following paintings. First is The Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, which is my favourite and is probably considered the most famous painting in the world. We watched a video in Khan Academy and I got shocked myself that she, the Mona Lisa, was actually seated, during the analogy how the guy was even able to notice that. It made me realize that little details like that matter in the painting and with the artist. Second is the Last judgement by Michael Angelo which is considered a Fresco. The word Fresco was a new term to me which means a painting done rapidly in watercolor on wet plaster on a wall or ceiling, so that the colors penetrate the plaster and become fixed as it dries. Lastly is the Jewish Bride by Rembrandt which made me allow my eyes to look deeper into contrasts in paintings. I really admire the way these masterpieces are thought of and give us, the viewer, a feel into the time when the painting is painted. I'd love to apply all the things I've learned in future endeavors and will definitely use them one day in the years to come.
