Heroes is based on a character called Francis Cassavant, who goes to war in a suicide attempt, his mission did not work as he jumped on a grenade which demolished his face and his characteristics. He return from the war and wants to brutally murder Larry LaSalle and this is why...

In chapter 11, a heroes awaits Larry LaSalle on his first return to the monument. At Larry LaSalles request the wreck centre is to be opened for one last time and for one more special night. This event will remind the people the spirit of time before the war.

The party ends and Larry tells Francis to leave therefore Nicole and Larry can have their last dance. Francis then starts to leave the Centre. Nicole then scurries over and says "Stay close to me" this shows the irony of Francis and it implies the reality of whats actually going to happen.
 
Francis states "We always did what Larry LaSalle told us to do" this implies that Larry was like a dad like figure, but in a bad way, this also implies that the society during that period was patriarchal and Nicole had no say.

Francis carries on walking after saying he has to listen to Larry to Nicole and he then wonders "I wondered if he had a big announcement for he" this shows the sense of naivety from Francis and he does not know the reality of whats going to happen.

Francis lingered behind and heard the distant moans in the centre. she say youve come along way and he goes as have you .so this shows that there having a calm conversation and there both talking calmly. francis apolgies for what happend all those years ago and nicole says it wasnt your fault francis im sorry for the way i treated you. francis feels sorry for her wishing he had done something to help her.
