Throughout the entirety of his Presidential run, Andrew Jackson displayed some Democratic qualities, but was overall not very Democratic. It is true that his tendency to listen to the word of the white middle class favored the Democratic. However, his unwillingness to listen to any voice other than the Democratic middle class as well as his non-Democratic actions, such as the Native American Relocation and Spoils system, all reinforce the statement that Andrew Jackson was overall not very Democratic.

Georgia of the Cherokee saying they can have their own land in Georgia, His intentions of the Indian Removal Act was to save the eastern and southern tribes from extinction but by making these tribes move, many have died from that. democracy is the participation of all people in the making of government policy and overall, it shows that Jackson did not allow all people to participate in the making of government policies.

Based off the definition of democracy, the participation of all people in the making of government policy, Andrew Jackson was not very democratic. While Jackson was very popular among his constituents, his position in the Indian Removal Act forced a minority of Native American people to move west, even though the supreme court had said not to do so, so that a white majority may use their land. Another example of Jackson being undemocratic is his use of executive power to overrule the wishes of congress, which led many to refer to him as King Jackson due to his extreme use of executive powers, such as the veto.

Throughout his presidency, Andrew Jackson was called the president of people and democracy but his actions did not reflect this. Although Jackson built his campaign on the rights of the common man, because of his actions regarding the vetoing of the national bank and the Indian Removal Act, he was only democratic on behalf of the majority, not the common men he was supposed to serve.

A major factor of why Jackson was not democratic was his treatment of Native Americans and how he forced them to move from their homeland in the Trail of Tears. Another factor was his support of slavery and looking down upon the slaves of the south.

He is seen as “Democratic” because he wanted everyone’s opinions to be heard and equally represented. When saying a democracy is the participation of all people in making of government policy, it means that the democracy has a principle social classes and individuals equality. Things like the veto of the national bank, the corruption, and the treatment of Native Americans all were undemocratic, therefore meaning Andrew Jackson wasn't really democratic.

First, Jackson forced Native Americans to move. He suggested setting apart an ample district west of the Mississippi for the Indian tribes to occupy. Secondly, the amount of vetoing to the bank by Jackson was not Democratic like. To many people, the use of vetos that Jackson used was shocking since they are like a presidential weapon. During Jacksons 8 years in office he vetoed 12 times, while all the presidents had vetoes 10 times altogether.

While Andrew Jackson and his Democrats claimed to work to preserve the ideals that all people are equal and deserve equal rights and opportunities, many of Andrew Jackson's actions in office largely contradicted his claim that he stood for the common man. The behaviors of Jacksonian Democrats hindered Americans pursuits of personal independences, and Jackson's financially limiting policies proved that he and his supporters did not truly seek fair fiscal freedoms for the entirety of American's citizens. Therefore, Andrew Jackson's view of of being democratic was inaccurate to a great extent and his resulting actions brought harmful impacts on the American democratic process and agencies.
