Both Elvis and his stardom are huge cultural values to society. Elvis at a time where society was strict, a lot of oppression , divides of race and class, helped to impact society and to change music for the generations to come. Elvis went against the grain, rejected to conform. Whilst he grew in success he stayed true to his working class roots. He grew upon on country and rhythm and blues and payed homage black musicians through his own music. His overtly sexual dance moves made wave for expression. His style, music and charisma paved the way for popular culture and arguably made Rock n Roll music what it is today.

While he acknowledges the star image built around him, he authenticates himself through saying he is a 'human being' and not just some unattainable glamourized, entertainer of the man he is made to be. He states its hard to live up to an image giving implication to what you see is what you get. He acknowledges what the public expect from him but also acknowledges that whilst he tries to live up to this, it is hard to do; a slight implication that he is not living up to the image but who he actually is. The quote both de-authenticates and authenticates Elvis at the same time.
