Organisms have adapted to perform reciprocity. Just like feelings like guilt, fear and love, helping another person is a learning action or trait. Reciprocity is important to the survival of both individuals. An example would be the remoras that stick to the sharks. Sharks with remoras have a greater chance at survival as they eat the parasites that are harmful to them. Sharks without remoras have a higher risk of being leeched of energy and other resources by parasites leading to there death.

Reciprocity is a social behavior that all living things do. It is also usually positive for both parties and the act is mutual. Depending on the example it could also be beneficial for both parties which is an example of Mutualism or one party is unaffected and the other is benefitted which would be an example of Commensalism. An example of a Mutualistic Relationship would be the Rats grooming each other. An example of Commensalism would be the remoras sticking to the sharks to eat the waste and parasites that is produced by the shark.
