I walk along the trail as the birds stop making noise, and the world gets silent. I can feel the wind pick up and see the clouds rolling over the horizon. Smelling the rain I walk a little faster, trying to escape the oncoming storm. I start to see the water ripple and I feel light caresses on my body as it starts to sprinkle. It gets colder as the storm rolls in. I take another glimpse at the sky, seeing it darken before me. I could see my house in the distance, "Just a few more steps," I think to myself. I start to run as the rain beats harder on my back and face, soaking me to the core in freezing drops. I run up my driveway to my front door. I step in closing the door hard behind me. I was soaked an decided to go upstairs and take a nice relaxing bath. "What a day," I say aloud, "what a day."

Standing on the little island of mine wiping back the tears that stung my eyes. Was I really the only one left? How long would it be before I was rescued? Soon my despair turned into dread. My family, my friends, all were lost in the flood. I ached for my mothers embrace. For my fathers kind words. There was no one here so I sobbed. After what seemed like hours. I laid down my head pounding and my eyes red and puffy. I wrapped my wet clothes around me. The cold wind was whipping me. I closed my eyes for the last time.
-Allyssa Cam

I rushed by figures eager to get the race done, so with my tense muscles I pedaled faster and faster with the wind beating harder at my body. My breath was not going through my body properly anymore making me light headed. Just as I thought I couldn't handle it anymore, and was about to give up I heard the crowd scream with joy. I pull my heavy head up to see that I was at the finish line. I got off my bike and immediately hit the ground, my body going limp. Out of the corner of my eye I could see someone coming up to me, I could vaguely hear them say, "Congratulations! You got first place!" I was so exhausted but I got up even though the pain was almost unbearable. I looked at the crowd as more people came across the finish line. My eyes found my teary wife who blew me a kiss, i fell back onto the ground glad that the race was over.

The entire room was silent as we all watched the projected screen on the wall. The show played quietly, but I could barely hear the insignificant words that the newscaster was speaking right now. Tension was so thick you could feel it gathering in your body, as everyone’s breath slowly, or quickly, pushed in and out of my coworkers’ bodies. I suddenly realized that my hands were clenched tightly at my sides and my heart was pounding. Suddenly, the words on the News report suddenly became clear as they glided into my head, “And the new President of 2016 is…” When they announced the name of whom I had voted for, all the tension ripped out of my body. My whole office had all voted for the same person, and they had enough our candidate. I was the first to cheer in the silent room, screaming an excited “Woo-hoo!” Everyone laughed and began to cheer as well, the atmosphere suddenly radically different. We all grinned like idiots and the room became loud and boisterous, so much so that you couldn’t think at all. We all just cheered and laughed and danced around with each other, the room warm and light suddenly brighter. I could feel the joy in the air, just as thick as the tension had been around all of us moments ago. I ran around the room, hollering and laughing. I even jumped up on a table and began to sing. Maybe we were a little crazy, sure, but we were all ecstatic. That was one of my favorite days at work.

The sound of thunder echoed throughout the field. The lightning striking a near by tree, but not letting it set ablaze. The dark shapes that formed what used to be figures you would find around your house, changed from cheerful to dark and dangerous. The clap of thunder slowly grew louder, disrupting the animals that were grazing around it.
As the clouds grew closer, the animals began to run, run away fast. They had not predicted the weather to become this troublesome. At first all the animals could smell was fresh dew on a summer morning, but now it grew to become something they feared.
The approaching clouds seemed to grow bigger, not in just shape, but in sound. The animals felt fear, the trees swayed. Oh how the trees swayed. They swayed so harshly that limbs of the living trees fell of, leaving a broken life.
The animals broke into a plain sprint as the wind grabbed at them, seizing them in their tracks. The babies of the animal mother's were killed, squished with limbs of the broken trees.
The thunder clapped louder, harsher, the lightning struck a dead tree, setting it ablaze. The fire grew large, burning the surround thicket. The sounds of screaming animals echoed through the field, burning alive, dying, being covered in ash and suffocating to death.
The fire and storm grew larger and as soon as it came, it stayed. The returning animals would find what they thought was their home ruined, dead corpses of their kind left everywhere.
The storm would never end, never stop, continuously leaving death and destruction in it's pathway. Everyone will remember this storm, and will never forget what had happened on the uneventful day.

My heart was pounding with the same amount of excitement as the crowd. I brought my eyes back to the finish line. My brain was running as fast as it could, my legs felt as if they were going to snap at any moment, they ached, but somehow I was still pedaling. I was gripping the handlebars so tightly that they were starting to feel numb. At this moment, my pounding heart, which was full of hanker and hope, was the only thing that got me across the finish line and in first place.
