A dolphin has many different adaptations that help make them useful in the environment. A dolphin can hold its breath while swimming below water. When a dolphin does need to breathe, they breathe through a single blowhole located at the top of its head. A dolphin is shaped in a way that is very energy efficient for swimming. Dolphins chatter underwater through long distances. Dolphins are able to hear sounds clearly underwater, and communicate with one another.
