Dorian has never thought of losing his good looks, but Lord Henry makes him realize that he is getting older and beauty will fade. Something changes in Dorian's attitude towards life, he is no longer the young and naive man. Lord Henry sees Dorian as an interesting object of study. Basil realizes something is going on, he knows it is because of Lord Henry's bad influence. The portrait is finished and the painter decides to destroy it, but Dorian stops him. Lord Henry then invites Dorian to go to the theater with him and drive him home in his carriage. Basil tries to dissuade Dorian by inviting him to dinner instead, but he refuses. When Harry and Dorian leave, Basil is upset.

Wilde was a homosexual, something that was illegal in the UK until the 1960s.
