Hobie explained to Violet and Myrtle that they would need to get into the blind spot of the train conductor so he wouldn't see them. Then they got on. When Violet got off the train she was covered in axle grease. They knew they needed to wash off. Violet was happy that myrtle was from Washington because she knew her way around.
